How old were you when you first noticed signs of aging?

I'm in my late 20s now. I don't have any obvious wrinkles, but I have noticed my face looks more...mature, shall we say. I've been sort of noticing changes for the past year or so. Having young children and no sleep probably doesn't help!

Deteriorating sight is the kindest thing; for years, I thought I looked the same as ever. Then I caught myself in the rear view mirror in sunlight and yelped. There was an old lady driving my car! I was in my mid-forties. Now I'm heading faster toward 60 than I'd like, and am wrinklier, crepier and looking like my mum (who, to be truthful, looks astonishing at 80). Then the lady in TKMaxx asked me whether I was buying clothes for my grandchildren. DS will be 16 this summer!!

About 23, wrinkles on my forehead really started to set in.

Now, my skin is no longer smooth, my forehead is really quite lined and the frown lines look like i have had a machete to the face at 25. People think I'm in my mid 30s, although part of that is my manner!

Slightly worried how quickly it will continue - i have the same eyes as DM and i know they will sink terribly too.

  1. Strange hairs, nose to mouth lines and crows feet.
Amethystus · 11/02/2015 09:04

Until I had dc2 I was regularly asked for ID, since having her, nah. Was 32 and she has been a high maintenance non sleeper. I've aged about ten years in the last three.

First grey hair at 15.......
I have a theory that eyesight fails as we get older so that we and our partners don't notice the wrinkles etc. Spectacles, contact lens and magnifying mirrors are not 'friendly'

notsogoldenoldie · 11/02/2015 13:15

At around 47, I think. Sagging mainly-still no grey hair, and few wrinkles.

Miggsie · 11/02/2015 13:19

I'm 50 and noticed the dreaded lines down each side of the jawline from nose to chin!
So doing facial muscle exercises and my face has lifted noticeably.
DH says I look at least 10 years younger, yes dear, now...about your double chin?

bluesbaby · 11/02/2015 13:57

Same as you OP, I'm late 20s and noticed I wasn't quite as baby faced as I used to be about a couple of years ago. Hairs in weird places, tiny tiny lines around the eyes, but most of all, body fat increase. My metabolism is shit and I have to work extra hard to keep weight off (doesn't help that I'm short so an extra 3 lbs makes a big difference).
At the end of last year I noticed I was getting IDed less - that's when I really noticed. I still lose my rag if someone asks me for ID for something silly and I'm tired though! Grin I don't get "What are you doing for your GCSEs?" comments anymore at least!

I found my first white hair at 38 early last year. Then I noticed that my skin is much more dry than it used to be and not as elastic, but a good moisturiser has sorted that out. I have decided not to start dying my hair mind you, and haven't found any more white hairs since (not that I can see with my failing eyesight anyway!). Wink

KnitFastDieWarm · 11/02/2015 15:25

Well I'm 27 and I think once I turned 25 I started to look less 'fresh' - I look back at photos of me at 21 or so and I was a bit brighter in the face - but also less characterful. I'm pretty happy with my looks at the moment, although I did start using eye cream last year. I am lucky enough to have great skin but I do find I need a bit more help around the eyes if I've had a late night - I now look slightly ill without makeup, as opposed to just like someone not wearing makeup.

Having said that, I have a round, ROUND face, which meant that I looked about 14 until I was 21 and then suddenly aged to about 25 Grin. I still get ID'd quite often and just last week someone asked me if I'd has my passport photo (dating from July this year) taken while I was still at school!

My DH is very tall and broad so he has never had that 'lanky young man' look - but having said that he did get ID'd buying a bottle of wine last week and was thrilled to bits - he's nearly 30 and is CLEARLY over 18, unless 17-18 year olds are looking a lot rougher these days...Grin

irregularegular · 11/02/2015 15:27

I'm 43 and a lot of my friends are about the same age. I've really noticed just recently that suddenly most people's skin looks a lot older - until now we were all bearing up rather well!

irregularegular · 11/02/2015 15:29

Tell me about the facial muscle exercises!

DPotter · 11/02/2015 22:18

Yes Miggsie - what's your secret ?

Naicecuppatea · 11/02/2015 22:25

Started getting grey hairs at 19 (at least 50% grey now and also hair is thinning), in my mid twenties my skin became a lot drier, now in my last year of my thirties the bags under my eyes are very noticeable and I have some fine forehead lines and crows feet but just under one eye. This is despite looking after my skin as much as I can with sunscreen.

Muddlewitch · 11/02/2015 22:29

I'm 35 and have noticed it quite suddenly in the last year. I was quite ill this time last year though so think that may have been a trigger cos it's definitely not that I'm old or anything I lost weight from the illness too quite rapidly so I don't think that helped.

Fine lines around eyes and mouth and the beginnings of a turkey neck..

candykane25 · 11/02/2015 23:13

I looked fresh faced until about 34. Still no wrinkles at 40 but saggier. Eyelids are droopier. Jowls are forming. Chin is less defined. I look my age whereas I used to get mistaken for much younger.
The only thing that has helped is that I have used eye cream everyday without fail since my 21st birthday and the skin around my eyes is still youthful, soft and totally line free.
