I'm going on a working retreat (two days) with a bunch of scientists at a country hotel. What will they wear?
They're scientists if that matters?
The Prof I met wore jeans and a tshirt but I think he dies hands-on lab work so that might have been why.....

I can't even start to guess what to wear!

Didn't mean to say scientists twice there, first one should have read "bunch of academics".

Academics are not the best dressed, wear whatever you like!

Honsandrevels · 09/02/2015 21:42

You'd struggle to be overdressed I think. Most men in my dept wear v crumpled shirts, cords, jeans. Women much the same, a few wear nice dresses, skirts etc.

Nolim · 09/02/2015 21:44

Wear whatever.

mowglik · 09/02/2015 21:44

Jeans, cords, t-shirts, all very casual stuff. Hons did you mean struggle to be underdressed?

MilkThistle187 · 09/02/2015 21:46

All my academic friends are terrible dressers and certainly wouldn't notice what anyone else was wearing

anothernumberone · 09/02/2015 21:46

I don't have a separate work wardrobe. I wear whatever is ironed, mainly jeans.

mooth · 09/02/2015 21:48

They're scientists. They're thinking about more exciting things than clothes!

Honsandrevels · 09/02/2015 21:48

Sorry, yes underdressed. Time to go to bed I think!

museumum · 09/02/2015 21:49

hons - surely it would he very easy to be overdressed??? I'm thinking they'll be casual. My casual is probably too casual for the nice hotel though.
I'm thinking maybe black skinnies, nice 'town' boots (rather than walking boots), blouse and cardi?

It is pretty easy to win in the best dressed stakes with a bunch of academics. I swear there must be special campus shops selling acrylic jumpers, it is the only explanation for some of the clothes.

museumum · 09/02/2015 21:51

I really don't want to be best dressed - I want to fit in :)

callamia · 09/02/2015 21:55

I'm a scientist, and an academic.
I'm also not a terrible dresser; no fleeces, acrylics or 'funny' t-shirts here.

Your idea sounds great - you're working, be comfortable, smart enough but not formal. I'd probably wear something similar to you, or a good knit dress with boots.

chutneypig · 09/02/2015 22:02

What you've suggested sounds spot on to me too.

museumum · 09/02/2015 22:15

Phew! Thanks.
I'll take my running shoes in the hope of a quiet run but they can double up if they all decide on a muddy walk.
