Jewelry design to celebrate my baby - help please :)

I have got some scrap silver jewelry which I have decided to get melted down and made into something new. I can design it myself and bring the design to the jeweler. My life currently revolves around my 8 month baby son who I am madly in love with Smile so I thought it might be nice to have something to celebrate his birth. Struggling for ideas though!

Just stamping his name/birth date on something seems a bit boring. So far I've seen a birds nest pendant (representing family), two peas in a pod (more for twins...) and those ones where they put the baby's footprints/fingerprints onto the jewelry.

Any nice ideas? Could be a ring, bangle or pendant.

I saw a nice idea on etsy - a mummy bird perched on a twig with a little baby bird dangling beneath it - there was space to add more baby birds as your family grows

I also love elsa parettis bean at tiffanys- my OH got me one for this valentines and I was hoping it would coincide with some good news - wasn't to be this month but it's a nice idea with reference to a new baby/new life

For my ds birth my OH had a blue aquamarine stone we bought on honeymoon made into a ring - if you have any jewellery with stones you wore a lot during your pregnancy and wouldn't mind it being reset you could use that in a more unique setting

I'm not a fan of openly 'parent:child' jewellery.

I'd maybe get some nice stacking rings in my families birth stones, or a sweet, yet understated, pendant.

It's just a personal taste thing... I am really into jewellery in quite a big way and when Dd was born I wanted something to commemorate her birth but not compromise my style/personality any more than it already had.

(Fwiw- Ended up with an Art Deco ring. Lovely and the period it was made is a nod to Dd's name.)

Oh yes, I agree mrscumberbatch I would prefer something understated/symbolic rather than something too cheesy and naff.

What's baby's birthstone going to be?

Fingers crossed its a good one ;) (mines peridot and its rubbish!!)

His birthstone is emerald, same as mine, he was born in May 2 weeks after my birthday! I love emeralds, they're not cheap though.

Oh, also you could say that our family 'emblem' is a fish as our surname translates to 'Perch' (a type of fish) in DH's native language.

I had the same idea, but want something connected to her name. Lets say thay mi dcs name is Rose, then i want something in the shape of a rose. I have found the origin od dc name but havent been able to find a piece of jewely with that shape that i like.

Flingmoo · 10/02/2015 10:17

Nolim That's a great idea, I don't think b it'd work for our son's name as it has a bit of an abstract meaning.

Nolim, tiangus Jackson had some nice rose pieces the last time I looked.

Mamushka, I like the perch thing... Rather than going all out fishy... Maybe something that looks sort of like scales? (To my mind anyway.)

This is the necklace that came to mind when I though fish!!

I think it is a fishbone style. It lays flat. You could get a chunkier bead/abstracty thing made to thread onto it.

(Also the price is totally misleading sorry. I do vintage jewellery and this was one I flogged earlier in the year.)
