Boden Breton tops

AdamantEve · 08/02/2015 17:09

I have been sent a random £10 voucher and 20% off code from Boden - random because I've never bought a thing from them before must have got my address from Bounty
So, I am a bit tempted to buy a long sleeved Breton top as it will work out to be fairly cheap. I have read bad things here though! Can anyone advise whether they keep their shape, wash well and if they will be long enough in the body for me at 5'9?
Also are sizes pretty standard? I'm a 10 at Oasis for example, do I want a 10 or 12 from Boden - don't want it skintight.
Thank you!

Size varies by item - read the reviews ad you'll get a fair idea. I have a couple of Bretons and some Hampton tops too. They are long enough for me but I'm a lot shorter than you. Easy enough to return things if all ges wrong. Just google so you get a code for free returns as well. The tops I have wash well and are nice and soft.

afghanda · 08/02/2015 19:00

The stripe Hamptons tops are brilliant, fit well, not too short etc. Bur I have a feeling they don't sell them in the spring and summer collection. If it turns out that they do, you can't go wrong with them. I've never tried their Breton tops though.

Comito · 08/02/2015 19:16

I ordered one a couple of months back and had to send it back. Even going up a size because I wanted it loose, it was skin tight.

Bunbaker · 08/02/2015 19:24

I bought this top last week in Matalan. It ticks all the right boxes for me. I am wearing it now.

Romcom · 08/02/2015 20:09

I got a boden breton last year and it's great quality. I'm a size 10 and got a johnnie b size 15-16 one, it's a great fit. Lots of the reviews said they were adults.

Tanaqui · 08/02/2015 20:13

I got £10 voucher too but I want a handbag and it's ££ and the reviews aren't fab. Anyone seen a silver bag with handles and a shoulder strap anywhere else?!

Romcom · 08/02/2015 20:19

I never get sent vouchers

LouiseBrooks · 08/02/2015 20:30

I have a Breton top I bought from Boden about 5 or 6 years ago. It's still in fantastic condition. I'm about 5 ft 7 and it's a perfect length on me, I like things a little long.

polyhymnia · 08/02/2015 20:46

They're not as long as I like tops on me at 5'9'' but I'm a lot bigger around than you and that will make a big difference I imagine.

The detailed measurements and the reviews on the site are very useful, specially as Boden vary so much from item to item.

AdamantEve · 09/02/2015 19:53

Well luckily for me the voucher also includes free delivery & returns so I think I may order one and see how it is. The last two striped tops I got from H&M and George at Asda (I'm not a big spender!) have shrunk terribly in the length and are unwearable now so I may have better luck with Boden, we shall see.

I have a couple and they've worn reasonably well. That said, Seasalt ones wear better and they're longer.

Woahbodyforrrrm · 10/02/2015 12:48

I've just ordered a Masion Scotch one, it definitely looks long and quite thick. If it any good I'll let you know!

mammuzzamia · 10/02/2015 12:57

Mum uniform here along with skinnies and converse.

The Boden Bretons will be good, OP

ihearttc · 10/02/2015 16:55

My Boden Breton's from 3 years ago are really thick and still going strong.

The one I got 3 weeks ago is incredibly thin and looks like its been washed about 100 times.

daimbardiva · 10/02/2015 17:02

I am 5'11" and a size 14. I have a johnnie b Breton from last season and a Boden adult one from this. Both fit well (long enough, not skin tight - age 16+ and size 14 respectively) but the johnnie b one is thicker and better quality. Like them both though. I also have a short sleeves adult one from last year which is good - I don't know why they've made them so thin this year

Flingmoo · 10/02/2015 17:16

I ordered a couple of long sleeved Bretons from Boden last year and was really disappointed by how thin the material was, i.e. you could see the bra through it. I wonder if they do thicker ones for winter or something but I couldn't see anything on the product description to indicate that they would be lightweight. Sent them back.

luckygirl322 · 12/02/2015 09:00

They came out with different colors for winter 2014, but the material was exactly the same-very thin. It's the same material for the new spring 2015 colors too. Much too thin for the price.

They always get me with the colors though. If you're interested in the yellow stripe called 'butter', it's actually much closer to 'mustard'.

TheGruffal0 · 12/02/2015 09:23

Fat Fat are doing one - wearing it now - nice and long in the body if you like your butt covered.

Higgle · 12/02/2015 10:19

I bought a summer one a couple of years ago, very thin for what it cost, though the style was good. I've had two more from Sainsburys and at £6 each they are better quality and still very nice.

HandMini · 12/02/2015 10:53

I would buy your Breton from somewhere you can try it on and you can feel and see the quality and thickness of the fabric (unless your happy to buy multiple items and do returns).

I find Boden stuff very variable depending on the year and the season, so I wouldnt generalise.

I've seen nice Bretons in Cos, John Lewis (might have been Joules) and Fat Face. I got one last year from H&M in a pre-holiday panic and it was great (for the season, but then for £10, it would be).

NotQuitePerfect · 12/02/2015 13:28

I always used to buy Boden bretons but last summer's were very thin and small-for-size. Colours were nice though.

This year I've discovered Joules bretons - much, much better quality for the same price though not as many colour choices. They may be a bit too thick for warmer days but perfect for a cool spring Wink
