Wedding outfit woes...

I have 2 wedding invitations this year, one in April and one in early September and I seem to have lost my wedding outfit mojo. I am 45, size 10-12, 5ft 9" and the bride and groom in both cases are in very creative fields (as am I) so not strictly conventional wedding style dresses needed. I am sure I can source a dress somewhere but am a bit stuck at what to put over it - jacket? (not really my style) coat? Long cardigan?

I am lost and have no idea where to start with this!

A long cardigan might be a bit casual.

I usually wear a pashmina or wrap.

SuperGlue · 06/02/2015 16:41

I know what you mean fireside but pashmina is really not my thing and I am also thinking it will be cold at least for the very early April one. Will def need something over a dress.....

It really depends on what sort of dress you're going to wear- have you got any ideas?

FauxFox · 06/02/2015 17:45

How about a dress coat style coat?

plum coat
biba coat
black jacquard
rose print
pasley
grey block
embroidered

A nice coat would be perfect. I adore the plum one FauxFox suggests.

Off to find my credit card....Smile

Twinklestein · 06/02/2015 18:02

Def not a cardigan, I'd wear a jacket or a coat.

SuperGlue · 06/02/2015 18:02

Oh my god FauxFox you are a genius! I love some of those coats! I really like the plum one anyway, regardless of weddings!

Can you style me please? I am fairly slim but if I gain weight I veer towards being apple shaped so don't have a fantastically defined waist (much as I mourne that loss)

I like the hoss navy and white one I think - what dress would you put with that?

I am not very well endowed in the boob department - about a c cup and I don't do low v-necks front or back due to bad skin which can erupt and I have little control over. I love boat / slash necks and they suit me.

For preference I would like some sort of a sleeve if possible....

I like quirky, embellished things, am not afraid of pattern but tend towards colours like navy, plum, mid-dark green etc. I have shoulder touching dark red hair.

I like things like statement necklaces / bracelets but no hats / fascinators!

I saw the purple and navy and turquoise shoes in the new boden catalogue and really like them......

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

Suggested dresses that I think would work with the Hoss coat:
biba
this in any colour except the black
portas orange
cerise shift
blue
navy ruffle
navy lace
Anything there you like?

SuperGlue · 06/02/2015 18:42

Thank you SO much for your suggestions. I quite like the biba one and the plum on you said any colour except black but not sure they are really setting my world on fire.

I don't even know if the hoss coat is the one or if it is too busy..

I just don't know! I like it a little quirky - such a stupid word but not so conventional. The wedding will be full of hot shot architects and designers (award winning ones) and in a fancy place - that actually goes for both weddings. Jesus - no weddings for about 4 years and now 2!!

With the plum coat (or any plain not print) you could do:

biba parrots
phase8
damsel in a dress
Label Lab zebra
Wallis - ignore the foul shoes
portas sequinned cuff
Damsel forest print

...

FauxFox I really love that flared midi dress in your last post! It is beautiful. Can I ask you something - suppose I bought that, would it work with something like the plum coat? What profile coat should I look for? Also, a comfort factor question - given the 1st wedding is in early april and I am not in a warm climate, so I am assuming it will be chilly at that time of year. The wedding inc ceremony is in a beautiful but large draughty castle / house. I can't imagine just having short sleeves during the meal etc but also can't imagine staying in a coat like the plum one indoors. I know that as the day progresses and there is dancing etc then i will be fine with short sleeves. What do you think?

If you look on the phase 8 website that plum coat comes in navy too which would be lovely with that dress. You could wear the coat for the church bit and any outside bits and the sit down meal/evening bit I'm sure will be warm enough for the short sleeves - the bride will prob be wearing less than that and will want to be warm enough after all! You can always wear a vest under if you know you are prone to being chilly.

SuperGlue · 07/02/2015 15:27

Thanks FauxFox I shall take a good look around the phase 8 website tonight. Now I want that coat in navy AND plum!
