Canadian weddings - dress code?

Anyone got any idea whether dress codes for weddings in Canada follow UK levels of formality or more American prom style? Or something different?

The wedding is small but glam. No guidance on invitation. Could ask other guests but thought I'd put a quick one out here first and hide my cluelessness from the people I know

Thanks.

What time does it start? If late I'd say very glam.

Thanks. It's a day to evening thing, small ceremony, posh dinner. I'll look at cocktail dresses rather than shifts then Smile

If formal then red jacket and wide brimmed black hat.
If informal checked shirt and jeans.

No hats - so i'm told by my Canadian colleague

Oooh, hadn't thought of head gear (am not a hat person anyway).

I know a Canadian wedding planner and she always looks like the mother of the bride....silk suit in a pastel shade, bloody great hat etc.

This is not a recommendation for you.

MaidOfStars · 06/02/2015 15:12

Ha, only just got the red jacket/black hat thing. A mountie, yeah?

What does the invite look like? Should be a clue there as to what sort of feel the event will have

burnishedsilver · 06/02/2015 18:25

Double denim for men is known as a Canadian tuxedo. I wonder if there's a clue in that.

HerRoyalNotness · 06/02/2015 18:31

The two I've been to in Canada, a lot of women wore a less formal dress to the ceremony and changed into a cocktail dress to the evening event.

No hats to be seen at all. I had a hair piece, small hattish thing to wear for one of them, but couldn't get the bugger in as they'd made it with the comb too tight against the hat part. Still gutted about that...

My impression is it's not as dressy as the states. I once walked past a bridal party in Vancouver and the bridesmaids were all wearing standard strapless dresses with Birkenstocks.
