Foundation makes me more wrinkly. Please help

I don't wear much makeup but would like to wear some more. I'm 35 and have ok skin but lots of fine lines round my eyes when I laugh if you look closely. I have some dark circles under my eyes so really do need to use something but the foundation (clarins so not cheap stuff) that I have tried seems to highlight all these wrinkles and make me look worse.

Am I doing something wrong? Please help

I have a similar problem - my bare minerals foundation has recently started making me look old round the eyes.

Primer is your friend here - I have an under eye primer from smashbox, not cheap but makes a real difference as it stops the foundation settling into the fine lines.

BallroomWithNoBalls · 30/01/2015 22:49

Use a ridiculously thick moisturiser then a primer too, should help.

Something like Astral or Nivea blue pot. You will look magically glowy instead of wrinkly.

SillyOldFox · 30/01/2015 22:51

Use primer instead of foundation or underneath it? (confession - I've never heard of primer except for paint Blush )

I use primer but also mix a drop of my Balance Me serum with my foundation. Extra hydration but nice and light.

SillyOldFox · 30/01/2015 23:25

So moisturiser first, then primer, then foundation +/- serum.

Is that right? Will my face not feel really 'thick' after that???

Why not try a tinted moisturiser , or BB cream instead?
Clinique Tinted Moisture Surge is good- my mum uses it and she's in her 80s- with some good under eye concealer, and a cream blusher?

Which Clarins are you using?

Penguinsaresmall · 30/01/2015 23:42

Bourjous Healthy Mix Foundation is fantastic - it gives good coverage but looks glowy/dewy rather than flat and matte (and ageing).

Have you had a look at Lisa Eldridge's online makeup tutorials? Worth a google, she's really good [smike]

SillyOldFox · 30/01/2015 23:51

OK next stupid question. Can I 'make' tinted moisturiser by mixing moisturiser with foundation?

Not sure which Clarins. I think it's just foundation. Are there different types of foundation.

I'll def look for some makeup tutorials. thanks for the tip :)

Use beauty flash balm under your foundation. It is amazing.

pinkfrocks · 31/01/2015 08:52

OP Clarins does about 6 kinds of foundation- incl Extra Firming, a matte one, a mousse one, a barely there one- check on their website.

Yes you can mix foundation and moisturiser but you may end up with the whole thing slipping off your face if you get the ratio wrong.

hattymattie · 31/01/2015 09:03

I think Clinique Tinted Moisture Surge has been discontinued. I bloody loved the stuff.AngrySad

MilkThistle187 · 31/01/2015 09:06

Clarins have a great primer in a little red jar, it's like pollyfilla for those little lines, great stuff. Put it around your eyes before your foundation. L'Oreal do a similar one

GeorginaWorsley · 31/01/2015 09:16

I second the recommendation for Bourjois Healthy Mix.
Also I like to apply with a kabuki brush
I also like a touch of illuminator such as Benefit moonbeam or Revlon Skin lights.

NomDePlumeRidesAgain · 31/01/2015 09:18

It sounds like you need to try different foundations. Lots do settle into lines or dehydrate skin making it look more lined than before. I like the YSL youth liberator serum foundation on my own skin. Gives me a nice finish, doesn't settle into lines, doesn't look like I've got loads of slap on (even in a magnifying mirror), gives a dewy but not sweaty finish and it stays looking nice for hours. I apply it with a buffing brush.

pinkfrocks · 31/01/2015 09:19

hattie Nope it hasn't!

Still on their website and bought some in Boots about 4 weeks back for my mum.

As for eyes, I like the Nars concealer. Again, really moisturising but not slippy and nice and thick to cover the circles. The Clarins one is supposed to be good too if that's easier for you to get hold of.

NomDePlumeRidesAgain · 31/01/2015 09:20

I used to get on with healthy mix but now I find it a bit 'liney' and drying.

42notTrendy · 31/01/2015 09:31

I have the Clarins primer in the red jar Smile
It's fab. Doesn't quite take the years off but certainly improves the look of my foundation (bare minerals usually, or Clarins BB cream on good skin days) no end.

hattymattie · 31/01/2015 09:33

Oooh Pink - I live in France and I can't get it anymore - they say they're replacing it with something else. I'm going to try to get some whilst I'm in the UK. It's possible they're just running their stocks down - or there is some weird marketing difference between England and France.
