Hold Ups....aren't holding up!

Turningscrews · 28/01/2015 08:25

Much prefer wearing hold ups to tights but often the tops roll over onto themselves, which is neither comfy or a good look....Angry Angry

Am I the only person this happens to? Is it because of my rather full legs? do I need a bigger size?

Ideas / solutions please!

Do you use a particular make? I HATE tights and always wear hold ups and love Sainsburys own! They've never let me down (boom boom)

If they're rolling over there may be something about the way the tops are constructed/the width of the sticky band that isn't working for you.

I've had hit-or-miss results from various brands. I thought Primark were rubbish but the last pair I have tried have been fine.

I have had pretty good luck with the Asda brand for staying up but I don't know how they do in regards to rolling over.

One pair I bought (expensive ones) said on the package that if the sticky bits lose their grip they should be cleaned with rubbing alcohol. And then I discovered that Boots doesn't carry rubbing alcohol, which is very annoying.

I found the Asda ones to be good too! The supermarkets seem to do them well.

Toner/nail varnish remover will do in lieu of rubbing alcohol. It's just something to remove any filmy build up.

I love Wolford hold ups. Last for ever

TheEagle · 28/01/2015 12:14

Wolford holdups will make your wallet cry when you buy them but they are truly amazing. They last for years and the holding up bit keeps it's stickiness!

For a more modest budget, I love the M&S ones.

Nothing more annoying than a hold up that rolls down your leg!

Argh! "its" not "it's"

Thank you every one - I have just put on a different make and that seems to have helped! Will definitely have a look at the Wolford ones as well Grin Grin

the alcohol tip - I rub it on my legs and that works a treat, I use the alcohol hand sanistising gel.

Tip found by chance...stockings falling down at work, there was some gel in the ladies....I never looked back!

In an emergency, you can just wet the silicon and it will stick to you again. Agree your legs can't be too moisturised where the band will sit

I've worn hold ups all my life and had a few traumas along the way with one or both sliding down my leg at the wrong time. M&S are the worst culprit for that. Pretty Polly nylons are a similar price and much more reliable.

A friend recommended Falke a few years back and they are beautiful quality and excellent stayers. And the opaque hold ups are nicer than my wolford ones and much less expensive. John Lewis website usually has a good selection, search for Falke Shelina for 12 deniers

Wore my one pair of tights yesterday and they drove me mad. All the pulling up and pulling down and the extra ridge round my waist, such a faff!!
