Interview in creative field! Help!

I have an interview for a college course in two weeks. Subject is Makeup/Hair. I am old (34) and have been a SAHM forever. This is the first step to me fulfilling my life long dream of becoming a MUA Grin .

What do I wear? I'm leaning towards all black in an attempt to emulate the MAC makeup artist look. I'm a high contrast person (silver hair, pale skin, usually bright red lipstick) so black suits me.

Or will black make me forgettable? I'm thinking slim black trousers, boots with a heel and some sort of shirt/blouse? I want to look vaguely stylish but not like I've tried to hard (I'm guilty of that in the past).

Obviously my makeup will be on point Grin .

Tips??

Firstly - 34 - not old. I returned to college to study fashion at 40. I was surrounded by teens and early 20s but had a total blast once the initial "wow, you are all so young" shock had worn off (and they had realised that 40 wasn't ancient!)

I think your suggestion is spot on. I would go for something simple that you feel confident in. That way you are creating a backdrop to show off your existing skills in terms of hair and make up. Let that be the centre piece of your outfit.

In fashion industry black is always in style. keep it simple.

Thank you both Flowers

I have some smart skinny black trousers. Do you think any of these tops would work?

I'm size 12, 32F with a belly. Can wear black cami or vest underneath.

Warehouse

Too casual?

Lace detail

ASOS

River Island

Embellished collar

New Look cheap and cheerful. Does it look cheap though?

Anyone else?

I think my favourites are the first Warehouse top and the Embellished collar ASOS one.

Some of those seem a little bit unstructured and if you are all in black you don't want to drown in it...do you like any of these:
fitted shirt
episode
wallis

Good luck by the way - sounds amazing!

squoosh · 27/01/2015 16:52

Exciting!

All black is definitely the way to go as it will let your hair and makeup do the talking. Of the tops you've listed the John Lewis one and the embellished collar ones are my faves. I also like the ones with zips that Faux posted.

Good luck and by the way, you're still only a foetus at 34!

BunnyLebowski · 27/01/2015 18:36

ThanksFaux and squoosh Smile

I'm not crazy about the zips or the wrap effect. It's not my usual style.

I'm usually dressed in pattern + colour + leopard print. Am making a concerted effort to look a bit more pared down and out together.

I might buy the embellished collar one and see how it looks.

What shoes would you go for? Recent purchases have been these and these.

Right Smile

Have bought the embellished collar shirt and some new high waist skinny black trousers. Going to go with the black/leopard boots I think. Comfortable but a wee bit of a heel.

Now I just have to complete the homework they've given me to do for the interview Shock .

I like the first boots. Good luck!

squoosh · 28/01/2015 10:04

Oh I like the sound of that outfit, good choice on the embellished collar shirt. I think the leopard print boots are a good choice. Might have to investigate those for myself! Wink

squoosh · 28/01/2015 10:05

Oh, just noticed they're all out of stock!

BunnyLebowski · 28/01/2015 10:20

Ah sorry squoosh! I got mine a few weeks ago!

They're really cute Grin .

Feeling excited again now! Yikes!
