Bra fitting question

I have recently finished bf and need some new bras.

I've bought a couple in the right size (as per intervention thread advice) but the wires are digging in under my armpits, so I've obviously not got it quite right!

The band fits firmly when i do it up back to front, so presumably the correct size. The smaller cup size leaves me bulging over the top but the bigger cup size is gaping. Is it just the wrong style?

Really need your advice please!

I think you need to have this moved to the style and beauty section where the right people can help. There's not as much traffic here...

OK, have you had a look at the blog page on asymmetry linky - that will give you some useful tips

What are your measurements, what size and bra did you buy? Can you have a look at your breasts and try to work out whether they are:
-fuller on top or bottom
-how wide the roots are ie how far round under your armpits does the breast tissue go?
-how close together are they in the centre?

I measure 32 under and 40 at 90 degrees, so tried a 32 E and 32F. The bras I bought are from M&S (because they were in the sale and funds are low) and are a moulded plunge style. (I don't try on or attempt fitting in there though!)

Looking in the mirror, my boobs are pretty similar in size and shape, slightly larger/lower on the left, but not so much that you'd notice if you weren't staring intently in the mirror! Not completely flat on top, slightly fuller underneath (just overall droopage after bf 2 children!). Aprox 1 finger width between them in the centre, and breastt tissue does seem to stretch quite a way round to the armpit.

Having tried the bras on again and looked again at the shape of them, the wires are very curvy and actually feel too low on my ribs at the lowest part of the curve, and definitely cut in too high to the tissue under my arms.

If I loosen the straps, the E cup fits and the F is a little gaped at the top. Not sure if that helps!

OK, 32 and 40 normally suggests a starting point of a 32FF, but M&S sizing is all over the shop so hard to use as a basis tbh. It sounds like the wires on this bra are too deep for you as well - imagine the difference between a U, and a C lying on it's side. One is wider and shorter, the other is taller and deeper. I'm guessing these bras are more U, less C. Does that sound right?

It also sounds like you're probably a bit bottom heavy, but not excessively so. I'm thinking (if I'm right about the wires) that brand wise Freya, Curvy Kate, possibly some Bravissimo own brand bras like the Alana and other balconettes might work for you.

Thanks, that sounds about right - the 'U' and 'C' is exactly what I was trying to explain!

How do those brands work for sizing? Would I be better trying a FF do you think? I know I need to order a few to try, it's just a shame they're all so expensive! The M&S one was £7, the Bravissimo sale price is £25! Hey ho, I guess you get what you pay for!

Also, I have a couple of tops which are a bit lower at the front. Are there any plunge styles that you could suggest?

The Bravissimo Satine is relatively wide wired for a plunge so could be worth a try. Curvy Kate do a couple of plunges as well.

Have a look at Leia, Brastop and amazon for bargains. I'd personally look for good deals on good brands rather than just cheaper bras - the quality of M&S bras isn't great IMO. I don't think they scale them up very well
