jacket really needed for job interview??

or can I get away without???

Will be wearing slim fit trousers, smart flat shoes (don't wear heels) and a nice smartish top.

job hunting for office based admin/secretarial/PA type of job. nothing high flying.

It wouldn't affect your chances one way or the other if I was interviewing you. But that's not the case everywhere so I usually do wear a jacket when I am the one being interviewed. The rule-of-thumb I've heard is to dress one grade smarter for the interview than you would be normally day-to-day in the job. So if normal work is in overalls or jeans, smart trousers and a smart top is fine. If normal workwear is smart trousers and a smart top then doing something to take it to the next level would be a good idea - a jacket is a good way to achieve this.
