Has anyone got one or can recommend one? Love having gel nails but can't afford to keep getting them done in a salon!

I'm having success with this one:

www.ciatelondon.com/uk/geltox-kit

If you look around online you can get it cheaper, I got a discount code for lookfantastic and bought it there.

I tend to change it once a week but as long as you seal the tips, it will last for longer.

I haven't bought remover kit, I just use my own acetone based remover and that works fine.

Bluebell79 · 24/01/2015 15:42

I have the sensationail kit and some other colours various brands from eBay. I can't paint my nails very neat with normal polish so not sure why I thought a gel kit would be a good idea. I have found it doesn't last as long as the salon but they use better brands.

Ownerofalittlechimp · 24/01/2015 16:20

I would recommend the Sensationail kit, got it on a boots offer. Have found that it lasts well, as long as any salon one I've had & they do a great range of colours. You can use other brand polishes with it but I've never tried. I find it easier than regular polish as it doesn't dry till you cure it so you can get a great finish.

Fab I'll have a look, thanks!

I have found that Sensationail lasts as long as the salon ones. I plan to try some Jessica gel with the Sensational kit also when I get a chance as there is a Jessica colour that I like.

IfYoureHappyAndYouKnowIt · 24/01/2015 18:08

My home gels last two to three weeks.

mamapain · 24/01/2015 20:47

I meant to say the reason I like the Ciate one because you can use your own nail polish. It basically just a top coat.

woodychip · 24/01/2015 20:53

I have sensationail too...takes a while but good results...

ContentedSidewinder · 24/01/2015 20:58

Re the Sensationail kit, do you have to file the nail plate at all?

I keep looking at CND kits as they tell you not to file the nail plate but the kits are so expensive. I don't want to file the nail plate. I used to have acrylic nails years ago as my nails have always been impossible to grow. Sad I want beautiful nails.

KateSpade · 24/01/2015 21:10

I also have Sensationail, I would really recomend! The one thing that's slightly disappointing is I only have about 3 gel colours & in boots they are around £15.00 to buy!

I recently bought a colour from eBay, very cheaply but it took about 6 weeks to arrive! So don't go for the listings from Korea!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 24/01/2015 21:39

Can the Sensationails be used without colour ( ie just the base/top coat)

IfYoureHappyAndYouKnowIt · 25/01/2015 01:24

I guess you could use Sensationail without colour.

I don't file the nail plate.

The last gels I bought were 12.50 I think off the Sensationail site. They came with a free small gift too (e.g. lint or buffing pad).

RiojaHaze · 26/01/2015 13:52

How do you remove it? Soak in acetone and rub off?

OP posts:
IfYoureHappyAndYouKnowIt · 26/01/2015 14:51

Yes. Just standard gel removal really.
Videos on you tube if needed.

Postchildrenpregranny · 26/01/2015 18:08

Has anyone tried Sally Hansen OMGel (you don't need to cure it with light)And can you use their top coat over any make of varnish? I have some nice colours but would like a longer wearing finish

Trumpton · 28/01/2015 04:02

I have the Sensationail kit and really rate it.
I only have two colours and usually just do sensationail base coat and cure it then 2 coats of normal polish and then finish with sensationail clear again.
It lasts about 2 weeks.
If I know I will want to change colour during the week then I use a standard polish over the cured nails and wipe it off using a non-acetone remover.
Photo is of French Connection colour with Sensationail base coat and top coat.
One further point , I recently bought their own remover and remover wraps and they are well worth having. The remover seems much better than the pure acetone I was using before and I think I will be able to use the wraps a few times before throwing them away.

I use this LED lamp from Amazon, which is amazing and sets a coat in 30 seconds: LED lamp and the Bluesky gels, top coat and base coat also from Amazon - they're usually about £6 a bottle. A set takes me about 15-20 minutes, lasts me about 2 weeks, and I've saved so much money!

trice · 28/01/2015 08:17

I bought a Kiss set from Asda on offer. I use the £5 blue sky polish from Amazon and some £15 gelish colours. I don't file the nail plate but I do a lot of washing up and gardening so mine last about a week. (Which suits me as I like to change the colour.)

My nails get much longer when I wear gel polish, they get broken quickly when I leave them natural.

Siamesegold · 08/02/2015 10:40

I bought the kit a couple of months ago. It's fabulous! I tend to not soak off after two weeks, just buff the shiny layer and put another coat on top and another top coat. I get another two weeks then. I bought Bluesky Polish from eBay it's only £5 they've a great range and a fab Facebook page.

To soak off I get two bowls fill one with hot water then put a smaller one inside with pure Acetone in. It warms the Acetone safely and makes removal quicker. I use a removal tool and gently scrape off, never peel off. Leave them a couple of days and oil like mad as Acetone is so drying.

I used to have acrylics and this kit allowed me to grow my own nails back. I did kep them short though!

MeganChips · 14/03/2015 18:33

I hve the Sensationail kit, it's really good.

I use a variety of gels, as long as it says you can use an LED lamp instead of UV, you're fine with any. Mine seems to work ok anyway.

Agree with PP that my nails seem so much stonger with it.

For removal I use wraps I buy in packs of 200 from ebay for a few quid. Theyre so much more effective at removal, the whole lot just lifts off with very little scraping. I am a bugger for peeling them off though which I don't recommend.

I don't file the nail bed. I did the first time but never since.

mirpuppet · 14/03/2015 19:56

MeganChips

can you please link to the wraps?

JesterJaffacake · 15/03/2015 08:40

thanks 70 looks like sensationail is the one! Found out a friend has one so when I take my current set off I'm going to give it a whirl.

MeganChips · 15/03/2015 16:46

These are the wraps I use mirpuppet

BlueberryMuffins76 · 15/03/2015 16:54

I was going to reply to this but furry said exactly what I would have upthread! That lamp and Blue Sky polishes are fab. I get 2 weeks wear minimum out of mine, though you will have to practice!
