I've tried loads and my hands are still dry. I don't mind spending up to £20 for something that will soothe my poor sore hands!

OP posts:

Aveda Hand Relief
Norwegian Formula - a bit greasy but does a good job
Tiny Bodyshop ones (but not hemp) to shove in every handbag.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 23/01/2015 13:27

And yes to Aveeno too.
The Clarins one is lovely to use but doesn't actually do much, if anything.

BelindaAllWorkedOut · 23/01/2015 13:31

My current favourite is the Palmers concentrated Shea butter one. I have only found it at Superdrug. I have a few of the other ones mentioned on this thread, too.

ArtyBat · 23/01/2015 13:45

Gardeners Hand Therapy by Crabtree and Evelyn - perfect!

InglouriousBasterd · 23/01/2015 13:50

Aveeno is fab as is L'Occitane shea butter - the new whipped one seems lovely.

canutesauntie · 23/01/2015 14:30

I use two from Skinny Dip from Malvern, the Finger Food & Miracle Balm, but they're all good
www.skinny-dip.co.uk/store/hand-foot-creams.html
YY to cotton gloves overnight for remedial purposes, you can get a big bag on Amazon quite cheaply, then you can have clean ones every night. Miracle balm is particularly good rubbed into splits and very sore bits overnight
I also like most things from L'Occitane Shea range, the small tubes are great for handbags & pockets and go a long way.
Herbfarmacy do a nice cream too.
I like the fact that none of the above are irritating to skin that's already sore or split whilst some of the barrier types like Neutrogena etc are a bit despite being good creams.
I have something called Mechanics Hands, a symptom of another condition, which makes the skin on your hands dry out, flake and split easily so the search for a great hand cream solution has been extensive!
Skinny Dip are mid price , £7ish and long lasting.

pinkfrocks · 23/01/2015 15:10

Neutrogena - any of them work for me and good old Atrixo.

chockbic · 23/01/2015 15:11

Hard to find something not too scented, non greasy and lasts.

AlleyCat11 · 23/01/2015 15:21

L'Occitane Shea Butter Hand Cream is my fave.
Lovely to give as a gift too (or to receive!)

pseudonymity · 23/01/2015 16:53

The La Roche Posay one is great, like a cheaper version of Clarins. Some, like Neutrogena, have to be used just after hand washing to work properly as they are barrier creams rather than moisturisers.

silversixpence · 23/01/2015 16:58

Aveeno is the best and very soothing.

HumptyDumptyBumpty · 23/01/2015 17:02

Weleda Skin Food is good, but greasy, and smells lemony.

Flexitol Hand Balm is ace, and unscented, and cheap! Non greasy too.

rosiepinkcheeks · 23/01/2015 17:10

Another vote for L'Occitane Shea butter. Wonderful stuff.

Hobbitwife001 · 23/01/2015 18:09

Hand Food, by soap and glory is excellent, and smells really nice!

CurlyhairedAssassin · 23/01/2015 23:37

Wilbur: "Have tried the Norwegian formula but it made my hands drier. I think there's something wrong with me!"

Are you sure you're not just sensitive to the stuff you're washing your hands with? I have to be really careful - if I use any antibacterial hand wash then my skin gets really irritated. And if I put my hands in washing up water too often in a day my hands will suffer then too.

Maybe you are washing your hands with a skin irritant which then gets "trapped" under the barrier of, say, something like Neutrogena?

If I were you I would stick to washing with a bar of Simple soap. Nothing fancy at all for the actual washing of your hands.

If your hands still don't calm down I think I would then be just trying something completely plain like olive oil!

CurlyhairedAssassin · 23/01/2015 23:39

As the moisturiser I mean, instead of trying to find a hand cream which doesn't irritate.

Did you use the fragrance free neutrogena Norwegian formula? One is scented. I use the unscented one.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 23/01/2015 23:43

And if you wear woolly gloves make sure they have been thoroughly rinsed if you wash them . Ds's skin gets irritated by his gloves sometimes.

Drink plenty of water etc etc.

weeblueberry · 23/01/2015 23:52

I love Badger Balm. Smells amazing and does really well on cracked and sore skin.

Twinklestein · 24/01/2015 00:05

Neutrogena is effective but it doesn't smell nice. L'Occitane lavender wins hands down from me, although Crabtree and Evelyn Gardner's Hand Therapy is excellent and slightly cheaper.

meditrina · 24/01/2015 08:38

Point of detail: wilbur is (I think) not the OP - she's a separate poster (been around for years)

(Mentioned as it's confusing - to me at least - when her name is used as a NN for another person)

travailtotravel · 24/01/2015 10:12

Another vote for clarins .....

ComeClose · 24/01/2015 11:00

Aveda Hand Relief is a nice every day hand cream, or the Nivea q10 hand lotion if your budget doesnt stretch to Aveda.

My current favourite is Jurlique rose hand cream (only good if you like a strong rose scent, though. They also do lavender and lemon).

Its very rich, a sort of cream/balm mix, and comes in a big tube. Divine and has sorted my dry hands out nicely.

FiveHoursSleep · 24/01/2015 11:24

Have you been to the doctor? it sounds like you might have hand eczema.
I've found getting non SLS handwash and avoiding getting toothpaste and dishwashing liquid on my hands helps.
Simple Dermex creme helps mine too.

FreeButtonBee · 24/01/2015 12:36

L'occitane Shea one is the best. I buy the enormous one and keep it in the drawer in work. It even cured dh's dishwashing hands - deep cracks at the base of his thumb gone.

BikeRunSki · 24/01/2015 12:41

Dr Hashuka rose hand cream. I also can't stand the smell of the Body Shop Hemp stuff.
