jumper with leather patch

I have a merino jumper (which ordinarily I'd stick in the machine on a gentle cycle) with a leather pocket. Do you think I can risk handwashing it? Or do I need to suck it up and send it to the dry cleaner. It wasn't ridiculously expensive so I'd be willing to take a little risk ....

Any advice oh wise ones?

I would handwash it but then I am a bit reckless like thatWink! I accidentally washed a leather belt last month as I had forgotten to take it off my jeans and it looked really nice and clean when it came out!

Oh its tricky. I hate dry cleaning. Never seems to clean it properly imo and its all chemicals. Personally i would handwash too..but then if you paid alot then you have to suck it up if it doesnt work out. It could kind of shrink and become dry and cracked. I would probably start off with dry cleaning and then after its a bit older, bite the bullet and wash it!

Oh is it dry clean only on the label?

My belt came out all clean and beautifully soft. I dried it overnight in the airing cupboard and there was no shrinking or cracking. I honestly think I might clean all my belts now!

thank you for your help, guys.

dexter you wild, reckless temptress, you! I think I'm going to give it a whirl (along with all my belts!)

yes green dry clean only according to the label. the jumper is fairly voluminous so if it shrinks a bit that shouldn't be a disaster but I see what you mean about (just) the pocket shrinking.

I'll handwash and try to keep the leather bit out of the water as much as possible. I just know that if I simply wont wear it if I have to dry clean it [should have checked before I bought it...]

I'll report back ....
