How not to look pregnant when I'm not!!

Help!!
I keep getting asked when my next baby is due. I'm not pregnant (have a 2.5 yr old). I've always had a tummy, but it's more obvious post-baby. I don't want to look pregnant! I'm 5'5", 9st 7, a size 10. With a belly. I get asked more in my work clothes - dresses (some with empire line I admit may be a bit maternity), skirts/trousers with light jumpers.
Any tips on styles that work with a tummy???? I want to look chic not mumsy!!

Fat belly here. Empire / wrap dresses are your enemy - stay away from them!

littlelionman · 21/01/2015 22:01

I've been so deluded, thinking the empire line was hiding the belly.. But nope, obviously it just looks even bigger. Hmm

Would control underwear help??

littlelionman · 22/01/2015 12:21

Have tried that!
Would like some suggestions on styles that might flatter a tummy?
Today I tried a dress with a full skirt and wide belt?
Feeling a bit clueless..

Try drapey styles or tops/dresses with scarfey bits like this
Scarfey

drapey

Wouldnt belts accentuate the tummy? I wore a lot of scarves right after I had ds to hide my tummy

I have the tummy problem.
Belts/ seams at the waist etc are all a big "no"
Rather than smock gathers you are looking for something in quite stiff material that skims the waist. Think 60's style shift.
You can wear empire lines, my most flattering dress is an empire line corduroy one but NO gathers.
The worst think is thin Jersey and anything that clings under the tummy.
Trousers are easier than dresses for me. Dresses can only be one length, just below the knee. Three quarter sleeves are your friend, but I don't know why.

Cardiovascular exercise can help get rid of a round tummy. Ive tried this and as well as tummy excercises...it really helps!

A good bra.
Padded if not blessed in that area. Hoist em high and stand up straight.

TweedAddict · 22/01/2015 17:32

High waisted jeans are your best friend, the next ones and new look ones are the best

victoryinthekitchen · 22/01/2015 17:32

Fitted shirts seem to be more flattering than clingy tops and also things that distract like necklaces and bangles, but mine seems to be huge since Christmas :(

7to25 · 22/01/2015 18:26

Yes to high waisted jeans, forgot those.

littlelionman · 22/01/2015 22:43

Thanks - some great suggestion. New bra is a good idea! And I don't have any high waisted jeans - great tip. The scarfy/drapey tops were nice, don't have any like that.
Yes, maybe the belt was a mistake!

Double layers works. So long vest tops and slightly shorter t shirts to cut offending area in half.
Also, size up.

mayhew · 23/01/2015 08:52

I've just got some very comfy stretch high waisted jeans from Dorothy Perkins. They're supposed to be very tight, so I went up a size to avoid the sausage skin look. Hold my stomach in with a decent belt.

catnipkitty · 23/01/2015 09:06

do the plank exercise every day, only takes a couple of minutes. did wonders for my post-twins belly!

costumething · 23/01/2015 09:10

Have you had it checked out by a doctor? Not to worry you, but my 'pregnant' belly turned out to be an ovarian cyst. Once removed, I had a flat stomach! Also if your stomach muscles have divided, something can be done about that I think.

Pilates. It put me back together post-babies.

I'd get checked for diastasis recti, it's really common and there's a lot you can do to make it better. If you search the term on YouTube there's lots of videos that show you how to check yourself.
