Here you go...

OP posts:
lalsy · 19/01/2015 18:19

Yes, MI, get it down you! Phew.

Rose, I think you deserve a big treat.

And Herbs, I have a peculiarly revolting vision now of a man like those genetically engineered nude mice Nude mouse

herbaceous · 19/01/2015 18:27

Oh dear. I've just googled Bald Hairy Crush. Tragic.

hattymattie · 19/01/2015 18:41

MI - relief about the surgery Wine and Thanks .

BTM - unfortunately DS's teacher is a middle aged (even older than us) woman who speaks like a darlek.

What is this about Wilbur doing airbandb? Could this be a London stopoverfor me?

Crepeys - much as I would love to see you all in Cambridge - I am arriving on 18th and leaving on 21st April and will be en famille. I'm not sure I can abandon DH, the two children plus DD1, who we are there to see, for a meet up on the Saturday night. Plus it is the night we arrive so I'm likely to have been up from about 5 am. If we can do a London one planned well in advance and I will book the Eurostar and organise with DH.

Rose, if you have any questions on Cambs I'm happy to help. QQ has also just been through the process - it's quite a rollercoaster and the support thread on here is brilliant.

bigTillyMint · 19/01/2015 18:57

Herbs, I could put a pic of DH on there. Not completely bald though. Yet.

I don't seem to remember thinking that any of the many male teachers at the DC's school is attractiveConfused Primary was a different matter... Smile

So Hatty, which night would it be for a meet-up?

motherinferior · 19/01/2015 19:04

Have you Facebook stalked him yet, Herbs?

hattymattie · 19/01/2015 19:06

BTM - Maybe Sunday night in Cambridge but I can see that's not good for everybody in London. That's why I need to try and get to a Saturday night one in London.

herbaceous · 19/01/2015 19:32

I have Facebooked. Sketchy. No mention of a wife.

beachyhead · 19/01/2015 19:45

I quite like a man with a bun a la Proudlock in MiC... None of dd2's teachers are fanciable. All very rumpled, sweet in a professorial way and prematurely old in cord jackets SmileSmile

Excellent news re: dmum, MI.. Wine is in order.

motherinferior · 19/01/2015 20:17

Herbs, you do know that he quite probably travels on the other bus, don't you?

Drinking beer. Nice Belgian beer. Beer is nice.

NUFC69 · 19/01/2015 21:04

Good that the op is over MI: just remembered that an elderly neighbour had her bowel removed about ten years ago. She must be well into her 80s and she copes really well with the bag. (I think that it is only about three years ago they stopped taking the caravan to France for months at a time). Enjoy your beer.

Rose, I hope you can do something nice for your birthday.

I like the sound of Airbnb, although we're in a holiday club and tend to use their accommodation, so not sure how often we would use them.

Day 1 of sensible eating, am already bored with it. (And there are lovely things like truffles in the cupboard).

CointreauVersial · 19/01/2015 21:07

MI - good to hear DMum has come through surgery OK; wishing her a good recovery.

Hatty - yes, I believe Wilbur is an Airbnb hostess, but only in summer months, as she has a garden annex. Summerhouse, possibly?? But I bet it's lovely.

Fanciable teachers? Noooo, none round here. Or choirmasters. Or any sort of balding man.

Boring day at work. After the frenzy of November and December everything has gone really quiet. I spent today tidying up my Internet favourites and archiving emails. Bored bored bored.

MollyAir · 19/01/2015 22:33

Sorry to have been offline - had to get Computer Guy (TM) in to mend computer. Neither Computer Guy nor 3 (three, III) roofers got my pulse up.

Glad to hear the op was successful, MI; and NU's post is very encouraging.

Thanks for the new thread!

motherinferior · 19/01/2015 22:36

Also could anyone who has my mobile number text me theirs? Will not bore you with details but DP thought he could upgrade me seamlessly and, er, couldn't.

bigTillyMint · 20/01/2015 06:50

Molly, your computer guy and 3 roofers reminded me of the landscape gardener who came to give me a quote last year. I had to go with someone else as I couldn't have trusted myself. He was very flirtySmile

MIGrin at "he probably travels on the other bus!" Will text you later.

Hatty, I agree - sadly Cambridge is probably not very doable for most of us on a Sunday night, but did you mean if we organise a London date far enough in advance then you could come? If so, tell us when is good for you!

Blackduck · 20/01/2015 06:52

MI glad to hear news re mum.
Yesterday was lovely if bittersweet - we always meet at Festival Hall and it holds very strong memories of endless cups of tea and (up in my case) bottles of wine at the Archdukes with said friend.

Then cam e back and had dinner with some other friends including iPhone who broke her wrist/arm just after Christmas and is now pinned and plated and not looking good.....

Friends nephew didn't get into Oxford (3 days of interviews and tests) and is gutted - school want to know why.

lalsy · 20/01/2015 07:19

BD, how sad - but what a lovely way to remember your friend.

NUFC69 · 20/01/2015 07:43

Pleased to hear that you had a good day yesterday, BD - always difficult under those circumstances.

We're waiting for the DGC to arrive for the day - it's very frosty so I guess DD is having to de-ice the car. I think it might be an Ikea afternoon as we have done the museums recently and it's really too cold to be out for long (plus very muddy underfoot). Ikea seems to be the default place for parents and carers when it's a miserable day. The place is full of DC - I must admit DGS1 in particular loves it and rearranges all the pots and pans on the hobs. Smile

How was your mum overnight, MI; first night is always the worst?

bigTillyMint · 20/01/2015 08:10

NU, my DC used to LOVE going to IKEA. Especially getting a hot-dog at the endWink

Rosebag · 20/01/2015 08:44

MI that is encouraging news. I expect DM will need time to recover from the surgery but once she is familiar with how to care for herself, bag and all, she and you will be able to look ahead. Cautious optimism, I think? Smile

hatty I'm sure you and other Oxbridge Crepeys/Crepey Mothers will be a great source of support if DS decides to apply to Cambridge. DH is an old boy (Economics, not Languages) but from a similar background…state school etc etc. Sun night in Cambridge isn't out of the question for me if DH can deal with the Monday morning rituals and I don't book in any work for Monday.

BD that's lovely and poignant.

NU I love a mooch around IKEA and used to take the DC when they were little. But I hate the actual IKEA shopping experience iyswim…

I can't bring myself to fancy any of the DCs teachers…most of them are younger than DS1….I even struggle to sit in parents evenings without a slightly amused, sardonic smile at the child brides that are teaching my children…Having said that, when DS1 was doing the Uni open Days…I was enjoying the slightly ageing rocker tutors on the music technology courses (well, not literally ) Grin Grin Blush They're more my sort...

NUFC69 · 20/01/2015 09:02

Rose, is it actually a shopping experience at Ikea? It's one of those places where I find myself tensing up when I drive into the car park. DH and I go rarely and sometimes I find myself abandoning things I would like to buy because I can't face the checkouts.

Blackduck · 20/01/2015 09:16

sorry about all the typos in that! Auto correct!

motherinferior · 20/01/2015 09:24

I failed to Ladyjog today Grin. Now turning to various features that preoccupy me but DP has salvaged my phone.

DMum apparently stable, according to my sister who phoned the HDU (and adds that the nurses sound very nice). This is all surprisingly knackering, isn't it?

I have sworn that I will only go to Ikea with DP again if we have a very strong spl*ff in the carpark, which is for many reasons - including but not limited to DP's lifelong clean-living - unlikely to happen.

NU, are your GC old enough for Seven Stories yet? I love that place.

MollyAir · 20/01/2015 12:25

BTM, re your landscape gardener - don't get me started on tree surgeons....

Two foxes were having sex a few yards from the back door this morning. I obliged them to decouple.

wilbur · 20/01/2015 12:37

Molly - that's so funny - there were foxes having sexual relations on my lawn, in broad daylight, yesterday morning. Tis the season (literally)... They were quite miffed when I used my noise-maker to split them up.

I am indeed an AirBnB host Hattie - but only in the summer as it's a teeny little single-brick garden studio and the heating in it isn't good enough for the winter. I'm a way from the centre of town too, but here's my gaff in case it's of interest.

motherinferior · 20/01/2015 13:01

I would like to thank the various suggestions a couple of weeks ago that instead of chucking slightly aged eggs I cook them instead. Have found lovely tubs of spicy egg curry that I'd forgotten, lurking in our freezer. That's supper sorted.
