Have barred phone and sim, bought new phone and ordered replacement sim - how long before it turns up?!

motherinferior · 31/01/2015 16:53

I'm so knackered I've gone back to bedShockwhich is embarrassing but understandable.

Rosebag · 31/01/2015 19:06

BD it would normally be couriered the next working day, no?…Monday? My DM lost her ancient Nokia recently (she was way overdue for an upgrade…it was held together with tape…). She blamed everyone with whom she had been sitting in a hospital waiting room, the last time she thought she'd had it…said they'd stolen it…although what anyone would want with such a dinosaur of a phone….
Anyway, DS1 sorted her out with an upgrade, new contract and and a shiny new iPhone…and three days later DDad found the offending Nokia in the car door pocket. Hmm Grin

MI don't be Blush…get the rest while you can.

We have had another homework day..and rehearsals. DS2 is performing at the Hard Rock Cafe on Tues night and it was the dress run. Now I have the place to myself as the DC and DH have gone to see Wicked (again…) I declined. I am going to eat chips and find a nice film on Amazon Prime.

Blackduck · 31/01/2015 19:37

Rose what I meant was how long before the original phone turns up :). I still suspect it is lurking under something somewhere....

MrsSchadenfreude · 31/01/2015 20:05

DD2 and I met up with DD1 in Kingston today, as she is staying in school this weekend. We did some charidee shopping (Kingston v good, by the way, can recommend). Got DD2 a smart wool Gap jacket and jumper, and I got a pile of books. Oh, and in true crepey fashion, I found the perfect gift for Stropps in one of them. Grin

DH has surpassed himself for my birthday - we have dinner on the actual day, Champagne on the London Eye and the theatre the next day. Shock

I'm heeeere....in Dublin (well remembered, Rudy). I haven't posted for a while, but I've been lurking; will update when I'm not on my phone....

CointreauVersial · 31/01/2015 20:48

And Happy Birthday, Strops! Smile

Happy birthday Stropps! Hope you are having a tip top day.

beachyhead · 31/01/2015 21:54

I bought my second pair of DM's ever today, thanks to dd1... Love them..

Mine are Chelsea boots so nice and tame, hers are cream and lace up and very cool. We only went into town to go to the art gallery!

hattymattie · 31/01/2015 21:55

Mrs S fantastic birthday treat.

We have been to see The Imitation Game - brilliant - DH said if we hadn't killed off Turing IBM might have been British!

I have to say - I love MI's turn of phrase .

beachyhead · 01/02/2015 07:54

That's lovely and true, well spotted Rudy.

Blackduck · 01/02/2015 08:20

MrsS so DH has stepped up to the plate :)
MI has always been one of my favs - back in the day when MN consisted of about 199 people and you 'knew' most of them....

Read the riot act Rudy!

motherinferior · 01/02/2015 10:59

I am blushing GrinGrin

MrsS, which date is it exactly? Am all a bit discombobulated with DD1's tomorrow. I don't have to do much - she is going to the cinema with a few friends - but I made cupcakes without eggsShock (spotted in time to stir in beaten egg, they seem to be rising ok) and am taking DD2 out for pizza and shopping while other girls go out. DP looking aggrieved for some reason, but all he has to is make quorn spaghetti Bol..

bigTillyMint · 01/02/2015 11:00

Go MI!

Rudy, what is he like?! I'm not surprised you are feeling angry with him. Would he engage in a conversation about how he is a father and husband and has responsibilities so needs to think about the effect of his actions, ie not risk life and limb.

I am feeling not too bad after the party yesterday (drinking from 4.30 - proper end to dry Jan!) and we had lots of fun singing karaoke - the DC had never heard of The PoliceShock but joined in with lots of the other numbers - and dancing to some other 80's classics.

MrsS, your DH's plans for your birthday sound fabSmile

Stropperella · 01/02/2015 12:40

Wow, MI, how lovely! And I do so agree with that poster.

Thank you all, lovely crepeys for all the birthday wishes, both here and on FB. I am feeling positively tiggerish today, despite being a tad hungover and a little short on zzzzs. I think it has something to do with so many people sending me messages for my birthday. I am feeling all warm and happy. This does not happen all that often, so I am savouring it. (Despite being rather under the cosh today with course work/lesson planning etc) Dh came through with flowers, chocs and fizz. Ds produced chocs too. Dd, hmm, well, have seen nothing yet from her, but she muttered something about a present today. I am mainly affecting not to notice this one fly in the ointment. Hoping I will not come down with too much of a crash later when I am struggling with my lesson plan and the fear about being observed on Tues kicks in, along with the hangover I actually deserve.

Mission "Celebrate Big Birthday, Phase One" accomplished! 2 of my super-fabulous and too-young-to-be-crepey friends arranged a lovely afternoon at a hotel (one beloved of MNetters, I believe) by the coast with a light and very civilised lunch, a back, neck and shoulder massage and swim and sauna. And coz we know the manager, we got free tea and cake too. No booze. But we made up for that last night. Grin I was really touched by the trouble they had gone to. The mum of one of them made me a birthday cake!!! Our 3 families all got together last night and all the dss rioted around while the adults (and dd) drank fizz and had some nice food. Low-key, but sooo nice. Home by midnight. Did not turn into a pumpkin.

Stropperella · 01/02/2015 12:47

And everyone is being so kind and nice. Had a lovely email from a really old friend in Germany, who last saw dd when she was 3, urging us to visit and be better at keeping in touch. And I'm thinking, actually, yes, maybe my fifties will be a time when I can do that stuff. There could be all sorts of bad things around the corner, but there may be lots of good things too. I am so glad that you lot have encouraged me to engage with the world again. Yay for crepey solidarity. Wine Cake Flowers

lalsy · 01/02/2015 13:25

Stropps, yay Flowers, and yes to your fifties being your time.

MI, yay Flowers, yes indeed.

Rosebag · 01/02/2015 14:11

Fighting the envy to be really pleased about stropps and MrsS's positivity around the birthdays. Sounds so great.... wistfull

Gosh rudy sounds like DH was suffering terrible exposure and exhaustion. Presumably only minutes away from a medical emergency. I think it's a bloke thing. If it were us we'd be thinking, "well I can't really risk that because I've got to be around for the DC, work, etc etc"

tillysounds like a lovely party!

Am preparing for visit from the in laws...not with excited anticipation. They've got the hump about the kids not thanking them gushingly enough for their Hanukah presents (ages ago) and finding out about things on fb that they think they should have been invited to. Bloody entitlement....honestly. Angry
DD has been in tears over prep for an English controlled assessment that DH is trying to help her do. Not helped by her having a very late night, last night. She's a pale as a sheet, poor kid. DH has that edge in his voice.....

I have decided we're going out for tea with the inlaws. I can't face making the usual spread. Failed daughter in law....oh yes. Grin

bigTillyMint · 01/02/2015 16:24

Stropps, so glad you have had a lovely birthday weekend - you deserve it. And more next weekend!

Rose, I am so glad the school don't seem to be mentioning the CA's DD still has to do in MFLs and English at the moment. She will have to knuckle down to them after half-term. Actually, I might try to find out what her French one might be on and prime my friends to ask her questions about it while we are away...

She has gone round to her friends for some maths tuition - he already has his A* and is very patientWink
