Non-Leather Boots

How long would you expect a pair of non-leather boots (£60) to last before the surface 'leather' starts to rub off (to 1p coin size in 1 place), making them unwearable?

For £60, I'd expect to get the season out of them at least! I've a pair of cheapy Tesco military style boots for the past 2 winters, still going strong. They only cost about €25.

Company I bought them from says its normal wear and tear and wont refund. They are a complete mess now.
