Still going strong as we head into 2015. Not a chance I can beat the vol 50 intro from the lovely Dry so I won't even try. Lots of newbies have joined the fun, why don't you? Come tell us your sales splurges. All welcome for fun fashion chat.

I guess I'm v stuck in my ways fashion wise, which sometimes is not a good thing.
Take the camel coat......I would have bought the J Crew princess style, SB with Peter Pan collar if it had been in the shop when I went there. Shop suggested the MD double breasted. My immediate thought was "I don't do DB" but when I put it on it was perfect and feels much less frumpy........I do understand what you're saying QC

MarshaBrady · 11/01/2015 16:26

I also think Blair that you've refined your style pretty perfectly. That edge makes it.

shopafrolic · 11/01/2015 16:27

Evening all - way too much to catch up on but briefly
Blair you know so much more about your style than I did at your age - go with you gut. I think RC sounds rather fabulous! :)
Novice Wow. Just Wow. That is all. Grin
Hopefully speaking as the woman with the bright red lipstick on the school run while surrounded by onesies and electronic cigarettes - just rock it. I've give up caring.

You explain it well QueenC but as Dry says you have never been frumpy! Yesterday when the consultant talked about ingenues and their princess traits and pretty faces I kept thinking of you.

Not sure if anyone has mentioned this but I think shop must be dramatic. It seems obvious to me now, so sorry if I'm repeating things!

MarshaBrady · 11/01/2015 16:28

And you too Queenc with flats, and cardigans. Ok not going to list everyone as i'll get into a quagmire of names and I'll forget someone and feel bad. But you know I mean you all.

MarshaBrady · 11/01/2015 16:29

I have no idea what I would be, not romantic or dramatic probably.

Fedupnagging · 11/01/2015 16:31

Thanks for that Queen, I will definitely look up kibbe later. I think confidence is the key here. Nothing wrong with white stuff or fat face if it suits you - I thought you looked great when we met and definitely not frumpy.

I have a friend who is good size 16 and buys all her clothes from primark, Matalan, peacocks etc, she is in her 40's and looks stunning in just about everything she wears no, not all jealous . She know exactly what suits her figure and carries it with confidence.

Blair someone up thread mentioned your Dune sliders- that's exactly what I was going to mention, you were wearing skirt, top and sliders, definitely edgy. You don't have to wear scarves if you dont want. I love them but am 20 yrs older than you! Exciting news about your shoes, hope you post a pic.

I am really confident with my colours but not so much my style. Am a classic but really self conscious of my tummy and so I sometimes tend to go too baggy in the hope of 'disguising' it but then end up looking dumpy!

BlairWaldorfLovesShopping · 11/01/2015 16:34

Marsha natural for you without a doubt, but I'm not sure what the second type might be - whatever reflects your sheer classiness Grin

MarshaBrady · 11/01/2015 16:35

Grin Blair haha yes something that allows for non-neat hair

muddlingalongquitenicely · 11/01/2015 16:39

Im using the HoC session to help me when i go clothes shopping. Never really had a close person to go shopping with to offer advice. DH goes but doesnt like to offer opinions as he says i should go with my own style.

I lost a fair bit of weight and i feel im still shopping several sizes to big and dont feel confident in a lot of shops.
I like some outfits but then think those people in the pictures are all taller and slimmer than me and i cant carry off the styles.

Hopefully · 11/01/2015 16:41

For me the style day gave me the confidence to do drama. Even though I wasn't exactly unstylish before, I wasn't doing drama at all (not a style that anyone in my family/close friends did/liked, so I was always talked out of it when shopping). So it was a massive change for the better for me!

blair obviously I'm not saying this Wink but I agree on the drama for Shop.

LinusDKD · 11/01/2015 16:44

All this talk about clothes personalities is so interesting as it makes me think about what cp I am.

But again, I think we are all so many different things although there will always be a style that's more dominant.

I do have to say I am more confident about what does and doesn't suit me and I think that came with age and being on MNV.

I do wish I had been that confident earlier on in my life as life with a naturally stylish beautiful DM wasn't always easy.

She still tells the story of how she would start shopping for clothes for me first when DSis and I were children as I would have to try on loads of things before she found anything that suited me.

And then she could put Dsis in whatever didn't suit me (virtually the whole shop) and it would look great on her. Sad

santamarianovella · 11/01/2015 16:45

Shock you were never frumpy queen, the beauty of this thread, is that it's a great mix of all styles, tastes and budgets, it would really be dull if we all shopped at the same place and wore the same jeans or whatever,
And I agree with dry, you don't need permission to try things, beauty of it all is to try, experiment And do mistakes! I will admit that I find the whole (style ) thing a bit dated, specially in this day and age, but I see it works for a lot, so why not.

BlairWaldorfLovesShopping · 11/01/2015 16:49

Eeek Marsha I wasn't joking! You are v classy! Obviously your hair/nails/unpierced ears is all natural, but to me your clothes have something slightly different about them. The consultant explained that one part of your CP is internal and one is external. So I'm classic inside and wear my clothes in a romantic way. I think you're "something" inside and Natural on the outside.

Hope you didn't take that as me saying you weren't classy because you don't have neat hair!

Loving all this chat btw.

Drywhiteplease · 11/01/2015 16:53

Oh linus that's horrible. You've turned out ok though.....such a chic, classy lady, you're DM must be proud despite the blue nails Grin

Unrelated, my DD is preparing a "rant" for English homework. The title is "blondes aren't dumb" she's blonde obv she's just told me about intelligent celebs who are blonde, one being Ellen "Dungarees"

MarshaBrady · 11/01/2015 16:54

Blair No no I'm not offended at all I thought it was a lovely compliment. I was being a bit silly. I really like that mix of designed and undone.

Linus that is off the scale and having met you I can't imagine it being hard to find you stuff that you looked absolutely great in.

I have linked some clangers on here and pin and you have all stopped me from buying them. I don't mind going off-piste sometimes, but it's great to have here to stop the bad ones.

Agree it would be much duller if we all bought the same things.

LinusDKD · 11/01/2015 17:10

If you don't make mistakes, how would you know what does and doesn't suit you? Grin

I'm over it now dry and marsha but I just wish my stylish DM would have had the sense to build my confidence, not destroy it by criticising and trying to put me into clothes that she liked and that didn't suit me whatsoever.

I just hope I won't make the same mistake with my DC!

She did nearly fall off her chair when she saw me wearing my Paige pleather leggings. Wink. In a good way as she thinks I dress too classic.

shopafrolic · 11/01/2015 17:32

I have been told I am Dramatic Classic by two people but I have no idea what this actually means in terms of how I should be dressing - although I feel closer to it with the new darker sharper haircut and the strong lipstick.
Linus I was always very glad I didn't have a sister. One of my closest friends had a sister v close in age and they were always very competitive in a not v healthy way.
Dry What about the blonde woman who does Countdown? She's clearly not thick (but she may not be blonde either!)

OP posts:
Hopefully · 11/01/2015 17:40

Shop are you enjoying the Winter stuff? How have you found the transition?

Hopefully · 11/01/2015 17:42

Another one with a stylish DM who hindered rather than helped - she is a very different style to me (natural ingenue) and could never get her head round the fact that dainty florals, pin tucks etc didn't work for me. So I spent huge proportions of time feeling exceedingly frumpy and kind of galumphing (because everything I was wearing was small scale and pretty, and I am emphatically not).

muddlingalongquitenicely · 11/01/2015 17:47

I dont google has ever been used so much since i have been on this thread!

shopafrolic · 11/01/2015 17:53

Hopefully I feel like I've found my home - cheesy I know. I had a real guilt that I didn't feel right in the Autumn stuff, when everyone said it suited me. I love having permission to wear black, white and red (always my go to colours historically), and getting back into wearing strong lipstick. I have a long way to go wardrobe wise now, but I can really see it when I get it right. I want to find more in Fuchsia pink and the greens, and building a summer wardrobe this year should be fun! :)
My DM was also very strong minded when it came to clothes - her and her mother had made all their own clothes. She taught me a lot about cut and fit. But was never very good when I tried to adopt my own style (which wasn't the same as hers).

OP posts:
MarshaBrady · 11/01/2015 18:01

I was pretty much in sync with dm about clothing and still nice to chat about it now. However we had a very limited selection where I grew up, which was very remote. There was only so much Country Road and Esprit one could wear. Although, in a weird way Country Road wasn't too bad in retrospect.

I loved leaving for Melbourne, then discovering Newbury St in Boston, my eyes were like saucers. And I got that first shopping buzz. Miu Miu tan suede knee high boots with red leather lining, they were the bomb.

libertychick · 11/01/2015 18:04

I think for santa and dry the reason why you instinctively feel irritated by the style / colour analysis is because you have a flair for design and colour. You don't need any 'rules' explained because you just ' know' them. It's one of your inate talents or gifts. I have a close to photographic memory especially for numbers. I think you are both puzzled at the way other people need help to 'see' colours and style in the same way that I look at people at work feel exasperated because they can't remember details of their budgets off the top of their heads the way I can Grin

OneLittleLady · 11/01/2015 18:06

evening all,

lots of interesting talk on here about colours and CP. I have no idea what CP I'd be.

Have spent the day in Camden, bought a fab bright purple wool hat and a tank girl tee Grin
