Bare minerals

I have some Xmas debenhams vouchers and would really like some nice make up. I have bad skin and just turned 30 so would like something that will be kind to my skin while hiding blemishes/ dark circles under my eyes and some spots. I'm useless at knowing what make up to use but have geared really good things about bare minerals. Does anybody have experience of using this? Which foundation do you recommend as I got confused with the different powder/ liquid versions and would really like a lipstick that stays on all day. Any advice please??? :)

Don't use the bare skin. Its shit.

The get started kit is great though and a good start.

I bought the get started kit with the primer and brushes etc. I think just for the brushes and primer (mine was full size) and the concealer it's worth it even if you don't use the actual foundation powder.

you see my experience of it us that in a very small proportion of lighting it looks flawless and amazing and glowing. In all others it looks aging and really shows those creases up.

I like the clinique bb cream and also the dior one and would take these over the bare minerals stuff personally.

I'm not a fan of the BareSkin foundation - it just doesn't look or last that well on the skin. The brush is a waste of money as well - a Real Techniques Expert Face Brush or Buffing Brush works better IMO.
I asked for a sample but I was told I couldn't have one.

I react really badly to bismuth oxychloride - it's the ingredient in many powders including mineral foundations that give the pearl effect on the skin. Some Bare Minerals mineral products, including some of the foundations contain this and I get deep spots/boils on my jawline if using these products. I don't generally have massively sensitive skin, but wearing this for 10 minutes makes me so itchy. Next day I'll have massive red sore bumps on my face.

It does depend on your skin type, so you might find that the products are amazing. I just don't think they are worth the money.

I'd recommend getting a light/medium coverage foundation and a concealer for blemishes. Then a powder to set it all.

I would suggest Laura Mercier foundations/tinted moisturisers - they are good at giving samples IME and the quality is great. They have something for every skin type. I also like Estee Lauder Double Wear Light.
For powder, I really like Mac Mineralize Skinfinish Natural and Select Sheer Pressed. But many other brands do great powders - it doesn't have to be expensive. I like the translucent powders from Essence and Nars, and Guerlain Meteorites and Chanel Les Beiges.
Mac lipsticks are great, but the cheaper brands are also good - Bourjois, Revlon and so on. For higher end, I like Laura Mercier, Guerlain (Rouge G, KissKiss and the Automatique ranges) and Chanel. Clinique are good too.

I have rosacea and love the Bare Minerals make up. I use the original Matt foundation which is a powder applied with a brush. It covers my horrible red patches much better than any other foundation I've tried, but without looking caked on.

As a PP said, the starter kit is,really good value as you get foundation, warmth and mineral veil, together with all the necessary brushes, far cheaper than if you buy them individually. Why don't you go to the BM counter and ask them to do your make up and see whether you like it?

Go in with a bare face and ask her to test the powder foundation on you. Then go outside and have a good look in daylight.

BM worked on me when I was in my late 20's. Tried it again a few months ago and was shocked at how it magnified every pore and line. A friend my age had exact same experience.

Thanks for the replies, I did try to go in and test the bare minerals but the woman on that counter only worked part time and was not there on that day, I have looked online and the mac lipstick in particular has some excellent reviews so think I might try that. The mac and Estée Lauder foundation look good too so not sure whether to try one of these instead of the bare minerals now. Think another trip in to the store is needed!
