Make up basics

I lust after a polished look, I try clothes wise to look my best and have my nails done but I hardly ever wear makeup. I wish to get slim this year and hope through a better diet and exercise to drop from a size 20 to a 14. I think wearing make up each day would help my confidence and achieve a polished look, so wise ladies what basics should I purchase need quick easy and natural. Thank you x

For every day work face i usually use

Foundation
Eyeliner (brown or grey) just around outer corners upper and lower
Mascara
Brown eyeshadow to colour in eyebrows (there are proper brow sets but i make do!)
Tinted lip balm
This takes me less than 5 minutes.

If i am just pottering around the supermarket, i might use a BB cream instead of foundation. It's much lighter but still evens out your face and makes you look a bit more awake!

For more of an effort i would also use bronzer, proper lipstick or gloss, and darker, thicker eyeliner.

Try youtube and pinterest for lots of how to guides that are much better than me!

Start with mascara, a smidgen of blush and a sheer lipstick to get comfortable. A full face of foundation will feel very strange at first. Do it everyday and add eyeliner and such only when you feel comfortable.

I would avoid foundation unless it is something very light. Foundation can make you look "polished" because you look made up but you could spend an absolute fortune testing them and the results can be very hit and miss if you don't find the ideal one.

I have just discovered this www.boots.com/en/LOreal-Nude-Magique-Blur-Cream_1432493/ it refines the skin, gets rid of open pores, minor age spots, and fine lines and makes my skin look 10 years younger without the look of wearing make up.

Every day I wear:
The blur
Black Mascara - Chanel Sublime - which doesn't thicken just lengthen
Blusher- Chanel is brilliant again because it will last for years
Powder Chanel as above because you use such a small amount
And I use lipstick in a dark rose red, applied with brush, blot and set with powder, so it doesn't look like lipstick but the colour of my lips.

I would try something natural and non-too obvious until you get the hang of it and start to feel confident wearing it. I feel too conspicuous in heavy make up and always have and generally natural looks youthful, made up looks dated and old!

Echoing the comments above... Start gradually and play!! Make up washes off so it doesn't matter if you don't like the "look" you create first of all; just take it off and start again.

Take your time, it's like anything new you try - the first time you can feel a bit cack handed but practice makes perfect.

Have fun with it and before you know it you'll have perfected a look (or three) which is just right for you.

Just to add, the first time i wore eyeliner i thought i looked like Adam Ant and felt ridiculous! Give yourself time to get used to how it makes you look amd work out what you like

Thanks all will practice and have a face to put on for the school run, I know it's silly but always felt a little lessor a grown up without having a face to put on as it where !
