Any tips for doing nail varnish please?

When I do my nails it always looks like a small child was playing with mummy's nail varnish!
Any tips please, especially for getting it neat around the base of the nail. I leave a little gap but it's always wonky!

Rest your hands on s table & with the hand you are holding the brush rest your little finger to steady your hand. Paint in strip down the middle & either sides. If nail is wider 2 strips each side. Use a base coat & fast dry top coat. Always wipe remover over the nail first to remove excess oils.

Funnily enough resting my little finger is how I learnt to write straight on the white board at work so that could work!!

OPI are excellent, usual retail price is about 11 quid but you can buy on eBay for 7 or 8 quid usually. Definitely worth the money. Rimmel Salon Pro and Essie also excellent, but buy Essie from Superdrug, not online, as the Superdrug version has a nice fat brush that's easy to paint with

If you can, have a few professional manicures and watch their technique closely - that's how I got much better at going my nails

OPI are £3.99 on Fragrance Direct. I'm awaiting a delivery at the moment after having a pre-Christmas manicure and seeing how good OPI is :-)

If you go into Poundland or places like that, they usually a makeup section and I've found some hidden OPI gems in there.

That's a great idea about watching the pros, also a good excuse to have a manicure!

One word.......Shellac
