Thoughts on this locket

I've been looking for a contemporary locket for sometime. This has gone into sale, £110. Thoughts? Is it still a bit frumpy looking or have I found the one.

I do like it but don't always gave the best judgement with jewellery. It's silver with black ruthium coating and lapis lazuli stone. By Astley Clarke...

I love it! Shame Xmas has gone ??.

VitalStollenFix · 30/12/2014 16:13

I don't think it's dreadful.

What sort of jewellery does the person like? Do they go for engraved? fancy? plain? chunky? delicate? silver? gold?

Spidergirl8 · 30/12/2014 16:15

Wear clothes from COS, Jaeger and like jewellery pieces that are classic with a contemporary style.

Don't like it, sorry. Expensive too.

opalstones · 30/12/2014 16:41

I hate how visible the hinge is.

mowglik · 30/12/2014 16:46

Really like it - nice and chunky size with clean lines. Think it will be better in the flesh so order it and return if you need to

Velocirapture · 30/12/2014 17:02

I like it.

mrssmith79 · 30/12/2014 17:19

Have a look at Heather Scott's website. Some nice ones on there for around that price range.

LeoandBoosmum · 30/12/2014 21:25

I like it when I look at the two close-ups but it doesn't seem to look attractive on the model's neck. Also, nice as it is, it sort of reminds me of a high quality free gift, like the kind of free gift Thierry Mugler would do, especially with that little blue stone.

christmaspies · 30/12/2014 21:27

Don't like the stone. Makes it look cheap imo

LeoandBoosmum · 30/12/2014 21:29

Not what you're looking for but very pretty and very different:

Jools (you can get it at John Lewis but I can't seem to open their site in my browser just now) does some lovely pendants...

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 30/12/2014 21:33

Don't like that glitter ball thing at all, sorry.

Spidergirl8 · 30/12/2014 21:48

Thank you for this. I think I may wait to find an alternative! Just so hard to find a locket that isn't too twee or catalogue bought looking. Perhaps I should save up and commission one from an art school student....

What about a ball locket on a longer chain, something like this? I think the proportions on the one you linked aren't right - the chain is too short for the size of the locket.

Spidergirl8 · 30/12/2014 22:16

This is what I would get if I won the lottery!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 30/12/2014 22:35

Sorry but that evil eye one makes all of the others look really tasteful in comparison!

Is there any particular reason why it has to be a locket? Whistles and Cos both do nice bracelets, for example, although obviously they are not silver.

LeoandBoosmum · 31/12/2014 02:54

Spider... that reminds me of stuff I saw with my granddad when I went with him to car boot sales in the 1980s when I was a kid. How can something so £££ look so cheap? Sorry...

turdfairynomore · 31/12/2014 03:02

There's obviously nothing new under the sun. I love Victorian silver and this is very like a Victorian sovereign holder!
