red lipstick for redheads?

Can anyone recommend a lipstick that works with fair skin and dark auburn/red hair?

I want a red for Christmas day (and to wear in general) but with two youngs dcs there's no chance I'll get out to try any.

TIA!

I dye my hair red so this may be incredibly unhelpful but the boots own "Natural Collection" lipsticks are very good at staying on (despite being insanely cheap). I use a deep red colour called "hazelnut". It almost stains as a colour and it really does stay put for most of the day. It's fairly dark, but I'm a bit gothy, so it depends if you want a deep red or a brighter/lighter shade.

Thanks Shadows, I think I want something a bit brighter- but I really don't know what suits best with my colouring.

slug that looks lovely. Are you in the UK- where do you buy it from?

Something with a little gold shimmer in it too like this

I have natural red hair and wear Russian Red by MAC.

Space NK is the easiest place to get it though I saw it in John Lewis the other day.

Collection Volume Sensation Ruby Red £2.99 at Superdrug.
My first red lipstick - long lasting, great against my Celtic colouring.

zippyswife · 18/12/2014 15:21

Thanks for all the advice- I was thinking of trying MAC before, so I might go with that Russian Red.

Zara- how dark/bright is the Russian Red?- I don't think I want to go too dark.

It's bright but not really dark. You might find this helpful

I'm a (fake) dark auburn with warm skin and I love Chilli by MAC, the first red lipstick I have ever worn successfully.

zippyswife · 18/12/2014 17:43

Thanks for that Zara, but I'm more confused now... If I'm fair (green eyes freckles, natural red-head) then should I go for a blue/red rather than an orangey red (I'm clueless!)? Are you fair skinned?

Anyone tried the Kate Moss Rimmel one?

I'm fair skinned, green eyed with hazel flecks and have hair colour similar to Julianne Moore so I guess we are v. similar. If you like bright I think Russian Red would be a good choice.

zippyswife · 18/12/2014 18:02

Thanks Zara- I think we have the same colouring- I'm going to go for your Russian Red. Thanks for your advice, I really am rubbish with these things. Can't wait to get wearing it!

Thanks everyone else for the advice too.

Hope you like it. I read somewhere that Christina Hendricks also wears it.

If you go to www.xovain.com and search under Russian Red there is a woman with naturally red hair who tried on various shades of lipstick and it really suits her.

zippyswife · 18/12/2014 18:27

Yep! I'm going to do it! Thanks!
