How much do you pay for a haircut?

What do you pay for your haircut - is it from a small local salon who does a brilliant job for £20 or a top notch salon for £70

I am having qualms about paying out £70 for a cut and blow dry at a city centre salon and part of me thinks there's a highly skilled hairdresser out there who does a good job for much less money. On the other hand I have a belief that you get what you pay for. I've had so many rubbish or mediocre. cuts that I'd rather pay to get a good cut in a top salon.

What's your views?

£90 for a full head of foils and a cut and blow dry. When I'm skint I go to the local college but the difference is obvious. I go 4-5 times a year. I consider it expensive but I really value the salon experience (alone time! Drinks that stay hot! Magazines! A massage chair!) so I'll pay it when I can.

chelsbells I used to got back to London when I first moved up here nr derby and I've been known to travel to stafford nr my mum to get my haircut. :)

Getting my hair cut is me time and i want to feel good after I've had it done and usually I take a wander round the shops - whilst in as pending mode :)

£9 local college. Its always a different student who cuts my hair but always the same tutor/stylist.

WaxyBean · 17/12/2014 07:52

What Wilkommen said - £60 per cut but don't go too regularly 3-4x per year and don't tip as I consider this extortionate....

iwantaginsoakedXmas · 17/12/2014 09:50

I pay £22for a cut and style at my local place. It's fine.

BerylStreep · 17/12/2014 09:52

£48 for a cut, or £80 for cut & colour. Belfast city centre salon with owner. I tend to go every 10 weeks, with a colour every alternate visit.

I have fine, delicate hair, so I am happy to spend the money. I had so many really crap haircuts in the past. I have been going to this hairdresser for 16 years now, and wouldn't go anywhere else.

kaykayblue · 17/12/2014 10:34

Do people genuinely find going to the hairdressers relaxing?

It's one of the most stressful experiences ever on my side! I hate it, literally hate it!

mowglik · 17/12/2014 10:39

£25 for a wet cut or £90 for highlight cut and blow dry twice a yr. Im happy enough with my hairdresser. I used to pay far more for a better cut where I used to live but not sure how to find a good stylist here short of trial and error

Chandon · 17/12/2014 10:49

kaykayblue,

I hated it too.

But my fancy very expensive hairdresser always gets it right, so I can relax. I look forward to it now, en enjoy the experience.

Not sure if that is worth the £80 though! Shock, but I am not extravagant in other departments...

MarshaBrady · 17/12/2014 10:54

£65 for the cut unless I forget to book early and have a more senior stylist, then £80

Highlights, which I don't do often, is around £130-£150

Nellymay · 17/12/2014 12:04

I didn't expect such a big response to my post - people obviously fell strongly about their hair - one way or the other :)
I'm going to go for my £70 cut and blow dry at my city centre salon and NOT feel guilty about it. But maybe, one day I might the ideal just on my doorstep.....who knows ....

I alternate. Pay premium salon prices 2-3 times a year for a cut, then in between go to the local cheapy place for a trim.
I find there okay at following the lines and just trimming but not so good a a style

RonaldMcDonald · 17/12/2014 12:33

£180 every 10 weeks for cut and colour

wfrances · 17/12/2014 12:45

£50 cut /colour every 5 weeks

Pyjamaface · 17/12/2014 12:50

I paid £35 2 weeks ago for full head colour, cut and dry etc.

I usually only have my greys coloured and a trim but went for it this time and had a restyle from looong to just above my shoulders.

And we had bacon butties as well Grin

GertrudePerkins · 17/12/2014 13:00

£23 for cut and blow - it's a pretty decent cut. I think price is dictated more by area than quality. In this particular city suburb, all the salons are £20-30 for a cut and blow. Go 4 or 5 tram stops into the city centre and you're looking at £50 upwards even for a pretty average cut.

chocismydrug · 17/12/2014 14:49

nothing. cut it myself but I have think curls and most hairdressers cannot do my type of hair well. I get regular compliments for my hair nevertheless Grin

BoboChic · 03/11/2015 07:32

I pay €110 for a cut. It's fantastic. I'm not taking any risks with my hair!

MrsAukerman · 03/11/2015 07:35

£25 for me and dh cut only at home. He's a friend but is a mobile hairdresser. I think he charges us mate's rates though.

chicaguapa · 03/11/2015 07:41

Good hair is very important so don't feel guilty about spending a lot on a hair cut. I do think you get what you pay for.

I spend £75 and travel half the country for it.

FartemisOwl · 03/11/2015 07:47

£30 at a local salon that's been highly recommended in the area. Pleased to say I've finally found someone that isn't scissor happy and does exactly what I ask for.

LumelaMme · 03/11/2015 08:09

Er, £3 plus tip. Blush

Mobile hairdresser. I'm always embarrassed by how little she charges so the tip is a good one. My hair is a nightmare and she makes it look half-decent which is as much as I can hope for. I expect if she came to cut only my hair (rather than most of the rest of household at the same time) she'd charge me a bit more per cut.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeG0es · 03/11/2015 08:20

£40 for a wet cut on wavy below shoulder length hair with the owner of an independent Aveda salon. No colouring and rarely have a blowdry but when I do I think it's about £10 more.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeG0es · 03/11/2015 08:22

And no, I don't terribly enjoy it either, don't hate it but don't look forward to it either, especially the grindingly slow hairwashing while they massage your scalp and I just want them to hurry up and get on with it.
