tried one on today, quite a nice brown colour. never had one before and it was rather cosy and I was wavering for the school run etc
BUT
big norks therefore risk of looking like back end of a bus
AND
are they naff-naffdinaffola?

Millets is hardly style mecca NDP. It's all hiking boots and regatta jackets.

NOMurDErousPLUME · 11/10/2006 16:20

I was not in there on a style hunt, northerner, funnily enough .

Finding a good waterproof (ish) coat that doesn't break the bank is not easy.

Am going to get my act together and go coat buying this weekend. You've all made me feel very motivated.

Ah! THEY'RE not puffa jackets!!! They're nice. Puffa jackets are...well....the chavvy ones (where I live anyway).

That down filled thing is hideous

cupsnakes · 11/10/2006 16:56

I have a black jacket length one with a fur trim hood from Gap that I got last year.
It's lovely and warm.
Unfortunately dh has also bought a black puffa jacket from Jack Wills and I just bought a Gap Kids one for ds so I'm going to have to make sure we don't all go out dressed as black puffa family (not that mine's going to fit me for quite a while post due date).

cupsnakes · 11/10/2006 16:57

They also had them at Kew last year too (though not as warm as my Gap one).

cupsnakes · 11/10/2006 16:58

this Boden one is not strictly a puffa (lined with fleece, not down) but apparently 'designed for warmth'

it's more slimline.

I have one that MIL got free on a film shoot in Canada in winter. It is deliciously warm and saved me from misery last year but it is free of style. I don't care......

TutterIckOrTreat · 11/10/2006 17:20

ooh i quite like the boden one

am in need of casual winter coat

mebbes the chocolate one...?

RottenOtter · 11/10/2006 17:20

just dont do the furry hood unless on a proper parka...just NOT sure about puffas - that marks and spencer one was gopping

I still have the furry hood. It's not a scabby fur. It's nice and soft. And as it keeps me warm I really don't care.

Did you cut the belt loops off? I kept the belt as I felt it had a certain apres-ski/ Diana Rigg in 007 feel to it but think I might lose it this year.

TutterIckOrTreat · 11/10/2006 17:23

think i might have to have it before then

15% off and free p&p and returns in last week's style mag

think i shall also get the contrast edge trench

damn this was an expensive thread for me to open
