I don't want to fritter it ! Or let it just go in bank account and dwindle away!

What would you buy with £1000 x

Lol polyhymnia. The question was 'what would you get?' And I answered. Maybe Tiffany isn't where you'd spend it but this necklace is where part of my £1k would go.

AmberNectarine · 07/12/2014 11:41

That's really pretty MakeMe. I think Tiffany gets a bad rap. If you look past the admittedly naff ID bracelets they have some lovely stuff.

I'd probably spend it on beautiful shoes, as that is my weakness.

Wishtoremainunknown · 07/12/2014 12:13

Nice bag and coat

polyhymnia · 07/12/2014 12:28

Apologies for being so dismissive re Tiffany Makeme. Agree it wasn't really relevant to the OP.

Most of their stuff isn't to my taste and I find the London store a bit theme parky which has, perhaps unfairly, put me off further, but they do have some nice things like the one you posted. And anyway these preferences are so personal.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 07/12/2014 13:08

Love that necklace.

I would get -

tan knee high boots / black ankle boots - these would be from somewhere like Clarks, Dune or Aldo and I'd wait until the sales - therefore could get both pairs for about £150
a coat, probably a peacoat from somewhere like Hobbs (I'd wait until the sales) - probably about £100
a leather biker jacket - about £150
2 pairs of perfectly fitting jeans - about £100 max
some makeup - about £100
Maybe a dress, either Westwood or a Baukjen jersey dress
And then probably some cheaper tops and jumpers with the rest, and a couple of lovely scarves.

Redglitter · 07/12/2014 13:13

I had this 'dilemma' a few months ago. Bought a designer bag. I'd never have afforded one normally so decided to blow it on that. I love it

felttippens · 07/12/2014 21:05

Thanks for the fab input I'm still so undecided !
Someone mentioned a crown - I have a missing tooth and a dentist phobia would 1k sort that? (Treatment including sedation?!)

Other ideas bouncing around

amazing Xmas pressies for my three kids - need smart coat and handbag - new tv - sofa - Botox - laptop - a piece of jewellery

What is Tom ford make up?

OP posts:
bettykt · 07/12/2014 22:36

Tom Ford beauty here Apparently the fragrances smell wonderful. He used to design for Gucci but now designs under his own name.

MinginInTheRain · 07/12/2014 22:44

I would go for classic pieces rather than lots of cheaper stuff that I would buy anyway.

Where would people suggest other than Tiffany's for jewellery. This post has me thinking.. Grin

polyhymnia · 08/12/2014 10:46

On non-Tiffany jewellery, I like Georg Jensen.

OP, I think £1k is about right for a good crown as recently paid around that. My dentist is in Harley St but I don't think his charges are way higher than other excellent dentists.

MakeMeWarmThisWinter · 08/12/2014 12:55

No worries polyhymnia, it would be boring if we all liked the same things Grin

I also like Monica Vinader for jewellery, and if you're in London, Fenwicks jewellery hall have a really nice selection of modern fine jewellery, including Carolina Bucci which actually if I had £1k I might buy a bracelet from - I love her Lucky range.

Minicooper · 08/12/2014 13:59

I got a beautiful bracelet from Yen Jewellery for my 40th and love it. I love jewellery as legacy - lasts forever.

MincePieDiet · 08/12/2014 14:12

I'd blow it all on a bag. There are several I may choose, most likely an Hermes Evelyne.

MincePieDiet · 08/12/2014 14:13

Actually that wouldn't be enough! Thought I had 3k to spend not 1kGrin

santamarianovella · 08/12/2014 15:02

mince the PM Evelyn is £1800, so not totally out of reach, if you save for a few months. Wink, its a beautiful bag, I want one in navy,

makeme I like Carolina bucci too, other nice desginers are pomellato, Hermes does nice jewellery too,

MakeMeWarmThisWinter · 08/12/2014 16:06

Ooh while we're fantasy shopping, a Messika Move bracelet would be on my list. They were in a beautiful ad in Paris Vogue Sept 2013 which I bought as I was on a cheap camping hol and the issue now graces my loo and I became obsessed stalking the web for cheap copies that don't exist.

MakeMeWarmThisWinter · 08/12/2014 16:10

Slightly above budget unfortunately. I'd get it I think if I had a spare £1k though.

ZaraW · 08/12/2014 16:34

I would wait for the Astley Clarke sale and get jewellery.

Floisme · 08/12/2014 16:55

An extra pair of specs with cool frames. That's half of it spent already.
Something from Vivienne Westwood.
I think I'm done.

MrsMarigold · 08/12/2014 17:15

Teeth whitened
Hair cut somewhere great
Microdermabrasion
Get my colours done
Any change on some great scarves

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 08/12/2014 17:21

I'd get some secondary glazing Grin

But if the rules of the game are that I have to spend it on something within the remit of style and beauty, I'd get a good quality coat, a cashmere jumper and cardigan and a nice dress from somewhere like The Pretty Dress Company (only not so tight), and maybe some good jeans and boots if I have any money left over after all that cashmere. Oh, and some cashmere socks even though they're ridiculous and will wear out in a few weeks.

SilentAllTheseYears · 08/12/2014 17:31

I'd pay somebody to come and declutter my house and do the garden.

RedToothBrush · 08/12/2014 17:32

If you want something that will last, how about a good camera with a nice portrait lens. Then you have photographs which preserve memories forever.

Bonsoir · 08/12/2014 17:36

A gorgeous coat.

With any change, a gorgeous pair of gloves and a gorgeous hat.

There is little more satisfying that dressing beautifully for cold weather!

Varya · 08/12/2014 18:01

Actifry, top of the range steam mop, Roomba, and share any change between my children.
