Work clothes from The Fold - anyone tried them?

I read about The Fold somewhere, their ethos sounded right: better than a Next suit but not totally stupidly expensive (I do like to support a new business, especially one started by a woman)

Has anyone tried them? Any good? Quality? Fabric? Fit?

Background: I need new work clothes. We are talking almost a full new work wardrobe (am going back into formal office 5 days a week after years of mostly working from home). I haven't got a huge amount of time to swan around clothes shops. Size 10-12, huge norks, good legs. Wrong clothes either make me look like Anne Widdecombe or Jordan. I look rather nice in the right clothes.

The Fold website scares me. Thin, flat-chested, very young models. TBH, they look more like cat walk models than the middle-ranking executive women who are apparently their target market. I am annoyed at them Angry but still willing to give them a go, if the wise women of MN tell me they are worth a try.

Bumping for you.

I've just had a look at their website. Their dresses are certainly nice, but very expensive at £300+ per dress.

I was about to say that their dresses reminded me of Britt Lintner's workwear but Google tells me that she is their co-collaborator.

If you do have big boobs, have a look at Winser London. I have a couple of their dresses and they're quite generous around the bust & shoulders in a 10.

No experience but Amanda Holden wore a dress from there on a This Morning and it looked fab on her.

Had a look at the website but the dresses are v ££

I love the look of their clothes but have never tried them. They do have a showroom in Clerkenwell, London if you can get there?

Amethyst24 · 23/11/2014 13:26

My vvvv stylish friend has a few pieces from there and highly recommends.

I have one dress from there bought in sale for 150. It is absolutely exquisite and probably the most beautiful item of clothing I own. Attention to detail is great as are cut and fabric. The clothing is interesting yet absolutely work appropriate. I think that if you can get stuff in the sale, compared with mid range high street is is exceptional. Lk bennett is often 250 for polyester stuff these days.

I would buy this one in a heartbeat if it were my size .... thefoldlondon.com/product/camelot-dress-navy-limited-edition/

Wow they have seriously gorgeous work dresses, if a bit over my budget. I agree money looks better spent there than LK Bennett or even Hobbs atm - would like to know if they look as good in the flesh. Belinda can you be persuaded to try some on for us?

TexanKenDoll · 23/11/2014 15:00

Yes, I had some when I worked in a corporate role. They are great quality and the semi-bespoke nature means fit is always right. I think they're a great price when you compare them to what men have to pay for a similarly made suit. They have sample sales too, if you keep an eye on their instagram they'll let you know when they're coming up.

Interesting company too, their founder is very smart and very nice. They support initiatives to get women up the corporate ladder and host various networking events.

Super. Thank you everyone. I'm very pleased to hear the fabric and cut are good. Expensive polyester no thanks.

Sounds like it is worth me heading to the Clerkenwell store to try on. I might have to wait until the sale to buy though.

Thanks for the Winser recommendation ruby. They look good too.

Texan I will follow their Instagtam as you suggest.

They keep sending me their catalogue for some reason - god knows how I've ended up on their mailing list! It does look lovely and if I had the money and a job that called for that kind of dressing I would definitely give them a try.

I, too, was impressed with the european styles of The Fold. I bought three items to be shipped to the U.S. Arrived fast. The fit is odd. I am 5 feet 6 inches and weigh 114 lbs, ordered a small and a medium. The medium was huge but the cut of the small was tiny as if it were for a child not a woman. Fabric is very very heavy. I returned them all at the whopping cost of $37.50 for return shipping! Still waiting for my refund on the items.

Sorry to hear that lilac . It is one of my favourite stores - but I can usually not afford it. I got a wonderful dress in the sales for £195 this spring , still pricey but so comfortable and really gorgeous, simple but with that additional detail.

On some clothes they do have some strangely thick fabrics which probably only works if you are super skinny. Unless I know the exact fabric they use, I would want to try it on before.
