Budget is about £20 .

I'd order some eyeshadows from Makeupgeek - the brand is created by a youtuber and the shadows are cheap but getting amazing reviews - they are apparently as good as Mac if not better.

How about a makeup book? Bobbi Brown Makeup Manual is a classic, Everything Eyes is newer (and cheaper), Sali Hughes new book is excellent, or classics from Kevyn Aucoin or Nars.

It you can afford a few more quid a lovely Chanel lipstick. Or for about £22 I think you can get a mini lesson in Bobbi Brown...?

I disagree about Sali Hughes' book - if she's obsessed she'll skim right through it and learn nothing! It's not great.

Real Techniques brushes are very cheap on amazon today. They get used a lot on the youtube tutorials.

If she's into YouTube tutorials etc. I'd look at getting her one of the Lauren Luke palettes - she started as a tutorial blogger and now has her own line. Yheir around £18 each and whilst not overly portable sized they are good value. I've had mine over a year and still use it.

Kiko are a great Italian brand - quite cult following they have a few shops in UK and do mail order too.

Charlotte Tilbury Feline flick eye pencil £22 from net a porter or Selfridges is what I would get for myself.

I quite the Clinique Xmas sets of 4 (small) chubby sticks, but they might be old news to your friend. They are right on budget. Just sent one to my sister with free gift wrap, free p and p and a couple of free samples.

how old is your friend, what type of brands does she like?
ie if she likes higher end brands then getting her a couple of cheap palletes might not be the best approach

i love make up and honestly would hate someone to buy me something i wouldnt use or didnt like

make up brushes would be a good bet or a voucher for one of the counters imo
books i wouldnt bother with as you get much more from youtube tutorials

OP - try and find out from your friend if there's anything she likes, uses (nail polish etc) maybe MAC Holiday Palette would be up her street or maybe something not in that line.

Shu Uemura are often loved by makeup addicts and Illamasqua (but I think you can only order to UK).

Bobbi Brown Brightening Illuminating Powder - better if she is on the fair side but it is a beautiful compact and very versatile.
