Oh that's lovely. Onwards and upwards indeed. Blubbing a good thing sometimes I think, tho exhausting. Bath and bed Stropps [looks stern]

CointreauVersial · 02/12/2014 21:51

Thanks Strops. And your DD. Thanks

But I'll join you coasteering! We were supposed to go last summer but it was all booked up.

Blackduck · 02/12/2014 21:57

Oh biscuits. Blubbing here now.Sad

MrsSchadenfreude · 02/12/2014 22:14

Oh Strops - that is a hell of a lot to deal with in a short space of time. Sad

What is coasteering? Confused

beachyhead · 02/12/2014 22:17

Mrs S, you'll love it.... Stropps, CV, you and me jumping off the cliffs into the freezing water below..... piece of piss (as my dh would say!)

MontserratCaballe · 02/12/2014 22:33

The idea of you and DD united in silent thoughts over your biscuits is so moving, Stropps. What a lot there is on your plate right now. Take it easy, be kind to yourself and try to rest when you can. Thinking of you Flowers

beachyhead · 02/12/2014 22:36

Besides my last flippant post, I second everyone here and say Stropps, you have a lot to cope with in the next few days, but I feel like everyone here that you are in so much a better place than this time last year. You've achieved so much in the last year and although it's overwhelming at certain times, you have so many more internal resources to pull on.

I'm so sorry you are feeling rough, Crem and Rudy and all of the rest of you feeling rough. And so excited to have all the uni kids back soon. This time next year, it'll be me!

I'm very proud of dd1 today - she took on the role of parent by dropping dd2 and ds to school, then went to college in her little car, drove back, picked them both up and has now gone out for babysitting.... she deserves her lie in tomorrow. I really wasn't that keen on her driving to college (an hour away), but she's really taken to it and the practice/experience will make a better driver of her in the future.

The Shard was amazing - it was the Penninsula private function room, looking over the Thames. Great food, lovely view, but I must admit I feel pretty happy being home and not slepping around with the kids from work in the City from bar to bar. Crepey or what!

Dh and I both turn 50 this year so party, party, party!

MollyAir · 02/12/2014 22:51

Oh, yes, MrsS, you would so love coasteering, it's not cold or uncomfortable in any way at all, or a bit risky, or anything like that. I would simply love to do it, agile springy mountain goat-like thing that I am. Wink

Stropps, this must be such a difficult week for you. I'm amazed you can keep teaching at all. Thanks

lalsy · 02/12/2014 23:52

Yes, and your flesh won't get shredded as long as you cover every inch of it and the kit is really stylish Grin. Ideal birthday outing.

NUFC69 · 03/12/2014 06:46

Stropps, I have just wiped away some unexpected moisture from my eyes, too, after reading about DD and the biscuits. What a difficult time for you every year - just hang on in there and be kind to yourself.

I now feel very old as I can't even remember what I did for my 50th Hmm although I can remember going gliding over the Cheviots for my 60th. (Wonderful experience, by the way, and well worth trying).

I hope Crem and Rudy are feeling a bit better today?

With regard to the SS, I can imagine that there are several of us who will not be able to keep their pressies anonymous.

The Christmas lights are going up on houses around here and it's lovely to drive around at dusk. We went to a local garden centre yesterday with the GC and DGS1 wondered why we weren't buying an illuminated crystal arch costing £4,000! One house locally with a long drive has at least 10 (ten, x) of those big lit trees running down to it. It does look spectacular, though.

Costco and writing Christmas cards call to me today.

hattymattie · 03/12/2014 06:55

Stropps - the biscuit making is a lovely symbol. I do thing you are a very wrong courageous person. My life has been relatively uncomplicated next to yours and I seem to have half your energy. You are a trooper.

I have no intention of ever jumping off a cliff into freezing foaming water. (glad I've got that off my chest).

hattymattie · 03/12/2014 07:14

Stropps - my autocorrect is out of control ... should read "I do think you are a very STRONG courageous person[blus".

I think I should only post from my laptop in future where I can type fast and every second word isn't changed.

bigTillyMint · 03/12/2014 08:14

NU, gliding over the Cheviots sounds fab - was that hang-gliding or in a little plane?

Hatty, I have similar problems with my phone - I type it correctly then it changes it to something else entirelyHmm

Beachy, glad your DD1 is stepping up (though not too hard on the gas, I hope! When I think of the car games my friends and I used to playShock) Glad you had a fab trip up the Shard, but shame you didn't want to carry on partying with da yung tings last nightWink

I have now received 4 Christmas cards already. Must get mine out too, NU.

MrsSchadenfreude · 03/12/2014 08:24

I think I would like coasteering. I've been white water rafting, and do wild swimming, so just the climbing to get used to...?

I would like to give you all an example of how barking BB is. She sent me three (3, III) emails yesterday, asking me to call her. Why didn't she just pick up the phone and call me herself? (I haven't called her, by the way, just enjoyed seeing the emails getting more frantic, with the use of capital letters and underlining.) SEveral of us are going out for a celebratory drink when she actually leaves.

bigTillyMint · 03/12/2014 08:38

Grin How long to go, MrsS?

motherinferior · 03/12/2014 08:45

Stropps, you are bloody marvellous.

Right, must meet deadlines. And not the early deadlines CDiff suggests I meet. Yes, they've got copy a WEEK EARLY. This does not mean I have to jump to everything a week early. I have to meet various other impossible deadlines in the meantime. And go to DD2's parents' evening tonight. And sing in a concert tomorrow. And meet you lot on Friday. And have various GCSE-related meetings, and another parents' evening, and DD2's concert next week...

cremolafoam · 03/12/2014 09:37

NU thanks, I am rallying
And no way will my SS be anonymous , bfast postmark and allGrin

I went WW rafting in haute Provence for my 40th followed by canyoning up a gorge. I have never been so afraid in all my life, but looking back, drifting down a slow WW river gazing at the sky in turquoise blue water was rather specialSmile
Right off to work: I have utilised a great deal of blusher to make myself look alive.

Rosebag · 03/12/2014 10:02

Thanks to you Stropps in anticipation of painful anniversaries. I feel a simple but tangible act, like baking biscuits is very important and very beautiful. Take care of yourself x

Great about your DD's driving, Beachy. I lost my third driver when DS1 moved out but with a jolt, I have just realised that DS2 is about to start driving lessons in January!!!!!! He's champing at the bit, so I may soon have a willing chauffeur for DD. And this was the little boy, who after witnessing DH and I regularly arguing over driving, said "Mummy, I'm never going to drive….I'm going on then bus.."

Good luck with your deadlines MI

Glad your a bit better cremo

I am off to a boring meeting where we teachers will sit there and contemplate the ever decreasing pool of available work and who we can bump off first to make more for the rest of us.

Did the choir end of term concert last night. Felt weird. Maestro had all her heavies there..her H, Parents, Daughter, Sister in law and various friends. Had to work hard not to feel intimidated. One more to go. Hmm Sad

bigTillyMint · 03/12/2014 10:25

I have to say that WW rafting and canyoning (WTF is that?) sound way too scary for me. But I get scared on red runs!

MI, good luck on the GCSE meetings!
Thankfully DD has decided she doesn't want to go to tonight's sixth form evening as she has French to learn for a CA tomorrow. Sadly, that involves me having to help her to memorise a double-sided A4. Such a CRAP system of teaching MFL - can't imagine how they manage the jump to A'level. DD struggles to understand how to conjugate verbs because they aren't taught toAngry

bigTillyMint · 03/12/2014 10:30

I am now feeling a bit worried about driving lessons - I wasn't planning on forking out for DD as
a) she doesn't need to drive - we live in London FFS!
b) insurance costs a fortune and see a)
c) I am not sure I could sit in the car whilst she practises having been in a horse and cart with her driving (however I do not feel like this about DSConfused
d) we have an automatic bus and she is teeny, so a manual smart car would be better?!

However, we still have 18 months till she turns 17!

bigTillyMint · 03/12/2014 10:31

Well done on last night Rose!

motherinferior · 03/12/2014 10:56

BTM, I can drive a Normal Car Grin OK so only with major adjustments, peering, etc so I bet your DD can too. Well, when I say drive....

bigTillyMint · 03/12/2014 11:13

Grin I didn't mean to offend!
I learned in a small car (think 1981) and it is definitely easier to manoeuvre a small car even when you are taller! I had a mini in my 20's and that was a cinch to park, although not so great when trying to pull out, etc. Plus she would need to learn in a manual?
