Here we go Wine

stropps agree with the others…don't rule working with the littlies out of court. There are good days and there are bad days. It's not a reflection on you and they should have briefed you about the behaviour strategies. I do better with gin…I can't drink wine at all.

This just plopped in to my inbox…
"Hi Rose
I am trying to arrange a get together with you and ConScript to talk about your play but also to get a few people to come and read it with us, as it is quite useful to hear it out loud. I’m thinking Thursday between shows might be good but wondered what your availability might be then, between 2.30 and 5.30. If you let me know, or which days you are working next week.
Sorry about the delay in getting back to you but Christmas show has dominated a bit.
Regards
HerrD"

Eeeeeeeeeeeek!!! Shock

CointreauVersial · 27/11/2014 19:13

Just back from Y10 Parents' Evening (DS).

It wasn't as bad as expected. Shock Shock

NUFC69 · 27/11/2014 19:42

That sounds promising, Rose. I am with you about the diet; I started on Monday and have been really good, but I am hallucinating about russett apples. Hmm

Stropps, don't let one bad day put you off. And it's no wonder you had a bad day if you didn't sleep properly.

MI, how is your DM?

I am so pleased - DD has just rung to say that she can have the day off and will be coming with me and DH to York.

NUFC69 · 27/11/2014 19:43

Sorry, CV, I meant to say - that sounds like a bit of a result.

bigTillyMint · 27/11/2014 19:47

CV, that's goodSmile

And Rose, that's good too!

I am not on a diet.

herbaceous · 27/11/2014 20:03

Welcome home MI! And such glorious weather to greet you.

I must have been channelling your intestines, as had terribly gyppy batty last night, after my Japanese takeaway. Most disappointing, as it was delicious, but I'll always feel unsure about ordering from them again...

I'm not on a diet either. My dramatic no-wheat-related weight loss has stopped, and indeed started to reverse, now I've discovered all the alternatives. Many of which are more calorific than the wheat version - such as Mrs Fimble and her infernal instruments of hip expansion, the coconut macaroons.

I do have a leftover birthday cupcake in the fridge, and some processo, which will act as my dinner.

DP is pretty good on the birthday front. Asks what I want, will get me a specific thing on the list, and some surprises - nice smells, book, or, yesterday, a mug from the London Transport shop emblazoned with whichever tedious train was in service on the underground in 1965. Sort of thing I love!

BTM, don't get me wrong; it wasn't amazing, but definitely moving in the right direction. So pleased DS has finally seen off all those subjects he hated so much (Music, Art, DT...). But there's a long way to go. Not impressed to hear that, as it stands, currently he will only be put forward for Foundation level Maths GCSE. I know he is capable of better...Sad I feel particularly aggrieved because I have Maths qualifications coming out of my ears and always found it so easy....but I can't think like that, can I? Blush

Early start tomorrow; DH is off early doors, and I am working from home because the bathroom floor is going down. Net result is DCs need to take the bus, which departs a full hour before we usually leave for school. They are Not Happy.

Welcome back, MI, hope you had a fabulous time. Care to join me in a Ladyjog tomorrow?

Auriga · 28/11/2014 00:14

Rudy, congratulations on winning against the world Grin

MI, glad you're back and had good time

Stropps, bon courage. Hope for better day tomorrow and better sleep tonight

NU, have fun shopping in York with DD

Herbs, glad you had good birthday but shame you're suffering after-effects. Could it be your tricky digestive system rebelling, or is it definitely the food?

Have been looking at old threads whilst ill. Crem, just seen your DD's performance of Bocca, bocca bella. She aced it Grin

MollyAir · 28/11/2014 00:34

Welcome back, MI! Glad to hear it went so well and the food was so yummy.

BTM, if it's any consolation, despite the subject of my degree, neither of my dc can muster any sensible words in French, and ds can't even ask for croquettes in a restaurant because he can't face trying to say it correctly. FGS. It is a travesty.

hattymattie · 28/11/2014 06:30

Molly - I have spent many years knowing how your DS feels speaking French - now I just brazen it out and puzzle the French with weird (British) accent. I am, after all, a middle aged eccentric crepey.Smile

CV can you not home tutor DS in maths or is that contentious? - like when DH tries to do Physics with the DC's.

Blackduck · 28/11/2014 06:41

Hi all, I'm not on a diet and trying not to care too much...

I am wfh and tackling 'the document' again. Problem is the co-ordinatot of the process is rubbish. She is now telling us to minimise duplication however we are working to a strict template that actively tells us to duplicate....I suspect that this is because at review they split the document up and deal with sections and thus don't want to be flipping back and forth......

Blackduck · 28/11/2014 06:43

Rose eek! (But in a good way!)
I am doing dinner tommorrow night and as is my practise it is a trip round the world:
Sushi (sorry Herbs - so the boy can showcase his skills)
Beef rending
Chicken noyna (so?)
Mutter paneer (for the veggies)
Rice, sald etc...

Blackduck · 28/11/2014 06:45

Sorry for all the typos in that lot ipad

Oh Rudy Shock I hope you hear soon.

MontserratCaballe · 28/11/2014 07:38

Rudy, can

MontserratCaballe · 28/11/2014 07:40

Rudy, how scary for you. It is entirely possible that he may just be asleep, esp if he is not feeling well. What time is it where he is? If this is a work trip, can you ask them for the hotel number and then get someone to nip and check his room? Thinking of you and hope everything is resolved v soon.

Sorry you had a sleepless night Rudy, but glad he's OKSmile

Rosebag · 28/11/2014 08:27

Oh my goodness, Rudy what a relief. Are you able to catch up on some sleep now?
That's good news about DS, CV although I can see why you're frustrated with the Maths. A lot can change between year 10 and 11. DS2 was right where you're describing. 2 years later (with better teachers and a great tutor, A*) I kid you not. At the time, I didn't care…Ive always been a duffer at Maths, but DH …well, he's similar to you re qualifications….
Good .luck with the offending document BD

Echo NU's question to MI…how is your DM?

I am not dressed. DD has authorised absence for performance today so we've only just got up. DS2 was most put out (he's only doing the evening and weekend shows…can't get authorisations for a lot of absences in 6th form.) What is it about teens…that they expect you to get up just because they have to…Hmm

motherinferior · 28/11/2014 09:45

She is not doing too badly, and is coping relatively well with the chemo but is also being incredibly annoying....

bigTillyMint · 28/11/2014 11:09

Yes, CV - DD's hatred of maths is similarly odd as both DH and I did Maths A level. Well, DH did some Kiwi version of itWink
Would he consider a tutor? DD is going to one (albeit rather intermittently) and she has gone up a grade already! For her it's all about confidence.

Glad your DM seems to be coping OK, MI. And are you feeling renewed after your holiday?

MontserratCaballe · 28/11/2014 11:28

Glad DH turned up safe and sound, Rudy. Lazy day beckons I think.

Nice to have you back, MI, and wonderful news that DM is as OK as possible in the circumstances. Have you plans to visit or is she in the "plough on and just get on with it" camp?

Rose, glad you are having a restful day.

Just back from having my back clicked at the osteopath. So much better. Slightly embarrassing that he was a school dad, but he has surely seen many parents in their bra and knickers. One of the parents in DD2's class is a midwife and has delivered several children in the school so I just need to get over myself.

Stropperella · 28/11/2014 11:38

Does no one think that an educational system where perfectly able children need tutors to reach their potential is, ahem, perhaps not doing its job properly? Dd is very good at maths, but had a major crisis of confidence in Y10. At her school, all the teachers in Maths and Science (not sure about the other subjects, as she's never had an issue with these so far) are required to run after-school clubs all year round and any student can attend any teacher's sessions to have stuff explained that they don't understand/catch up with homework etc. Dd found these very useful in her GCSE year and she is now going to after-school A level chemistry because she can't get to grips with a few things. She came back this week and said Mr X was fab and just sat next to her explaining whatever it was in 24 different ways until she got it. She said he eventually opted for couching the chemistry issue in Maths/algebraic terms and she got the concept immediately. I suspect she will have to keep going to these chemistry sessions because her confidence is pretty low in that subject.

Feeling better again today, as I actually got some sleep last night - probably down to going to circuits and sweating off a bit of anxiety. I also had a reassuring and very nice email from the Reception teacher (who is amazingly good at his job and also young enough to be my son).

Rudy, glad to hear the situation resolved ok. And MI, that's very good news that your DM is so far bearing up ok.
