Have received this text:

"I am going to a wedding on Saturday as a evening guest and am wearing a nice jacket and waist coat with a shirt..do you think nice jeans are acceptable or not? What would mumsnet say?!"

On further questionning:

"Really, evening invite only is fine"
"Hmmm they will be darker blue then clarkson"
"I have a pink or blue shirt to wear"

Ok, style and beauty mumsnetters, what can you suggest?

Did you mean to link that pic, or is he really planning to wear a tweed jacket to an evening do? (apols in advance if he, or B&G, are known to be very bohemian, in which case jeans also fine).

nevercackle · 16/11/2014 17:56

yes tweed

Tweed jacket and jeans? He'd be a laughing stock. Please entice him away from it.

Jeans (dark, smart) and a decent non tweed jacket would be fine.

Sparkletastic · 16/11/2014 17:58

No to jeans

cardamomginger · 16/11/2014 17:59

No. Not jeans and not the jacket. (Unless the venue and the event are casual. But even then, still probably no.)

zerotolerancezone · 16/11/2014 17:59

Yes to dark blue chinos.

nevercackle · 16/11/2014 18:02

He's 34 and has Colin Farrells eyebrows and alcohol tolerance.

No jeans

The outfit he describes make me thinks wacky facial hair and a crazy quiff although not quite sure why!

ok, help him.

Castlemilk · 16/11/2014 18:17

NO - unless he knows B&G from those crazy old days back at the Young Farmers Club.

Actually, no even then.

nevercackle · 16/11/2014 18:22

maybe he's spending too much time hanging around balmoral.

any other suggestions?

stareatthetvscreen · 16/11/2014 18:25

tweed day time wear only surely :)

never jeans to a wedding never!

CariadsDarling · 16/11/2014 18:27

No jeans. Please!

nevercackle · 16/11/2014 18:34

hang on a minute, i've just done a pinterest search for mens tweed jackets and those guys are seriously rocking the look.
i agree daytimey, but still nice.

soaccidentprone · 16/11/2014 18:35

Well I disagree.

I think it's a really great jacket. And would look great with indigo skinnies (but not so tight they're indecent), and suede desert boots (not tatty ones though).

No waistcoat, just a well fitting shirt (not white or patterned)

GarlicNovember · 16/11/2014 18:40

I like the jacket, too :)

I think he should go ironic with it. Wear it with a pair of green/grey cords and a patterned shirt. Weskit optional, but might be a bit OTT. And a tweed cap (trendy, not the gardener's old one.)

The jacket with jeans just looks like you're wearing two outfits, Bro, sorry.

zerotolerancezone · 16/11/2014 18:41

I think this sort of look is good. But no jeans, smart casual trousers instead www.guystyleguide.com/blog/2012/02/guest-post-wearing-jeans-in-the-office/

zerotolerancezone · 16/11/2014 18:42

Sorry, that's confusing given the article is about jeans! I like this look but would swap jeans for trousers.

zerotolerancezone · 16/11/2014 18:44

Is your bro as fit as this man? If so then maybe he can carry off the waistcoat too! Smile images2.drct2u.com/content/images/freeformat/131120_cgn_blazers_blazer4im.jpg

strawberryblondebint · 16/11/2014 18:45

I actually think he will look fab.

BringYourOwnSnowman · 16/11/2014 18:47

I don't think jeans are ever suitable for a formal wedding

TheAlias · 16/11/2014 18:58

Surely the daytime for tweed only applies to people who fancy themselves as country aristocracy. Among normal young men, at an evening do for a wedding, any kind of jacket would set him apart as being better turned out and having made more effort than most.

Depends who the bride and groom are, what the venue is and how formal the "main" reception has been but smart jeans, proper shoes and any jacket would make him far better dressed than most of the people at the wedding do I was at last night.
