Have received this text:

"I am going to a wedding on Saturday as a evening guest and am wearing a nice jacket and waist coat with a shirt..do you think nice jeans are acceptable or not? What would mumsnet say?!"

On further questionning:

"Really, evening invite only is fine"
"Hmmm they will be darker blue then clarkson"
"I have a pink or blue shirt to wear"

Ok, style and beauty mumsnetters, what can you suggest?

It's a yes from me!

ArchangelGallic · 16/11/2014 19:01

How long is he actually going to be wearing the jacket for?
In my experience they're only worn to get the first round in and then it's slung on to the back of a chair.

4ADThrowingmuses · 16/11/2014 19:03

Whats wrong with a tweed jacket?

BackforGood · 16/11/2014 19:22

NO!!!
No to jeans.
No to the tweed jacket.

He needs a 'smart' pair or trousers and a formal plain shirt at the very least. Suit would be better IMO

deweydells · 16/11/2014 19:59

My DP wears tweed jackets with smart jeans - it's a popular look in London at the moment. I think it's fine for an evening do unless it's a very formal wedding.

burnishedsilver · 16/11/2014 20:02

No jeans.

GarlicNovember · 16/11/2014 20:03

Actually, I've just been looking at some fashion spreads of tweed blazers with black jeans; it works a lot better imo. The problem I've got with Bro's current ensemble is the colours don't tone - better if it were a blue tweed! I like the green one he chose, though, hence my preference for green or greige (erm, khaki) cords or moleskins.

Some posters don't seem to have noticed that tweed's been high on the style matrix since 2012 Wink

BuckskinnedAstronaut · 16/11/2014 20:15

Isn't he going to end up looking like this?

Ooh my brother has asked for mumsnet's opinion on his wedding 'evening invite' attire.
Vitalstatistix · 16/11/2014 20:17

good god no.

Tell him from me he is no longer allowed to even attempt to dress himself. Grin

Shockers · 16/11/2014 20:22

Tell him to go for it!

myknickersknackersknockers · 16/11/2014 20:22

I like the tweed jacket and jeans is a good look. Brown shoes and a tight fitting shirt. Wouldn't even totally rule out a waistcoat either!

GarlicNovember · 16/11/2014 20:23

Sexeh ... and a wedding.

Tweed and jeans to a wedding?? Has the world gone mad?

Neither full stop.

usualsuspect333 · 16/11/2014 20:32

Jeans are fine for an evening do.

I like the jacket.

GarlicNovember · 16/11/2014 20:42

OK, but please can the waistcoat feature both blue & green? Choppy colour schemes make me itch!

GarlicNovember · 16/11/2014 21:00

Like this, perhaps? www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MENS-WOOL-BLEND-GREEN-FLECK-TWEED-WAISTCOAT-VEST-ALL-SIZES-S-M-L-XL-XXL-/231361751223 I'm tired of browsing clothes pictures now, but did get sidetracked by an astonishing peacock-printed silky number!

burnishedsilver · 16/11/2014 21:17

Is he sorry he asked yet?

i don't think he's sorry he asked but he does like his jacket.

he says his target market is daughters of rich estate owners and therefore feels that the highland gent look might work in his favour.

OP posts:
nevercackle · 16/11/2014 21:33

oh and of course he has a proper suit etc but would quite like to wear something a bit different.

OP posts:
Vitalstatistix · 16/11/2014 21:40

not that different.

TooMuchCantBreathe · 16/11/2014 21:41

Twead jacket and darker but toning cords with a soft collared shirt and possibly braces. Assuming he is both youngish and flattish of tum. Twead and smart jeans is also very in here (no where near London though). Personally I think good jeans are ok for an evening only invite unless it is a hyacinth bucket wedding?

nevercackle · 16/11/2014 21:46

it's got to be hard for a bloke to wear anything 'different' really though.
