Warm and cool together?

I have a smart but rather dull work wardrobe so have been looking at blogs for ideas about how to jazz it up.
Quite a lot of blogs seem to team what I call warm and cool colours together eg black clothes with a brown handbag or grey trousers with a beige top. As a cool winter this looks really strange to me, like people have got dressed in the dark. But perhaps I am just old fashioned and this is the latest thing. What do you think?

Me too. I particularly like black with brown.

It does go against the guidance used in colour analysis but that's not something that everyone believes in which is apparent if you read the threads on the subject!

But the colour analysis is based on 2 seasons being made up of warm colours / shades and the other 2 being made up of cool shades. There might be some that cross both, like navy or a true red, but the principle is there of cool OR warm, no?

I suit warm and cool together as I'm on the cool end of Spring. Consultant advised me to mix gold and silver together, for example.
