How much do leather jackets stretch?

As usual I am between sizes.

Smaller one does up but does feel slightly restrictive. Bigger size more comfy but worried it will stretch & end up too big. I think the smaller one looks better even if it doesn't feel better iyswim. I realise I prob won't wear it done up that much) but small one is slightly tight on sleeves & across back even when open.

Sleeves on smaller one are a better length on me.

It's a mint velvet one so leather is soft - possibly more likely to stretch?

What to do?!?!

Go for the smaller one, leather jackets look so much better worn close fitting. And worn undone too.

SofaCanary · 08/11/2014 12:31

I'd go for the bigger one, leather jackets are supposed to be thrown pn effortlessly, bit hard to pull of insouciance if you can't move your arms!

mowglik · 08/11/2014 13:23

I always go slightly smaller agree with pp that leather jackets look better well fitted.. I have just got 1 from mv it's the furry lapel one and it's a perfect fit but find the shoulders too boxy :(

I regret sizing up an All Saints leather jacket. My usual size felt a tad tight done up and I didn't think there was much in the look of the next size up, but on reflection I think the smaller one was a neater fit. I also hardly ever do it up! Also, I think if its soft leather it will surely stretch.

I think I read somewhere that blazer style jackets should be bought to be close fitting, if not a size smaller, and I think the same applies to leather jackets too.

Yep, I'd go smaller too. Bigger will look a bit 90s.

nooddsocksforme · 08/11/2014 19:05

definately the smaller one -leather jackets should look sexy. I have a few and the one i wear the least is probably the roomiest, I also have an all saints one which i got for my fiftieth (blush) which I always worry about by dh loves

That's the one it is mowglik. I'm sitting here in the smaller one with a vest top & thinnish jumper underneath. Only place it feels a bit uncomfortable is the insides of my elbows. Still undecided though re size!Grin

All my leather jackets feel a bit tight on the insides of my elbows when I bend my arms - thought that was normal! It's lovely jacket gonna try it out again before deciding whether to keep it or not

Go smaller.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 08/11/2014 21:18

Deffo smaller, and don't fasten it - they look awful fastened.

AmelieinOz · 20/04/2015 07:03

My first post here!

I was deciding between a right size and a smaller size when I remembered mumsnet!

I ended up getting the smaller one because of the snug fit. What do you think? Did I make the right decision?

The right size is longer, and more masculine.

Amelie, yes, I think the smaller one looks WAY better!

I have two leather jackets, both in my normal size, and I wish I'd sized down. They always feel too big and 'flappy' when undone.

AmelieinOz · 20/04/2015 08:36

KoalaDownUnder, thanks! I felt like the larger one was making me look very masculine. Also in the middle of weight loss regimen. :)

RuggerHug · 20/04/2015 18:52

smaller always. then they 'shape' to you and fit beautifully. You will be happy and feel it was made for you and adore it. Investment jacket. Just don't then leave it after years of love with other black leather jackets in the corner of a pub at a 21st and expect it to still be there at the end of the night Sad Sad I still mourn that river island with corset style detail on the back biker one.
