Please share you deal with marks/scars left behind from spots. What helps them fade faster???

Thanks Clara for sharing that thread, they don't have the 30% peel for public use only professionals can now buy it, looks like they changed it, but they are selling 10% peel but if I get the 10% toner then I am not sure I would need it.

I was pregnant at the time so didn't fully indulge myself in the peel process. I just lurked. I was too scared incase I burnt my face off amateur
I really like the 10% toner. I think that might be one of my favourites.

LackingCommonSense · 10/11/2014 14:57

This is really interesting.. nervous to try at home though! think I'll go for salon treatment first!

LackingCommonSense · 10/11/2014 15:11

I've just bought a salicylic acid peel.. d'you reckon it's safe to use which the La Roche stuff??

Kundry · 10/11/2014 18:36

I use a 20% salicylic peel once a week (started out as 10%) and Paula's Choice 2% twice a day.

I just miss out the Paula's Choice on the day I use the peel. The peel tingles a bit but nothing serious and you neutralise it after 7 minutes (again I did less to start with).

Calling it a peel is exaggerating really - nothing actually peels Grin However it is fab and my skin looks great for it.

SeymoreButts · 10/11/2014 18:57

Sorry to hijack, but has anyone tried Alpha H Liquid Gold?

I'm also wanting to get rid of red acne marks. I'm coming to the end of a course of doxycycline so haven't got any inflamed spots at the moment, just lots of old scars.

My terrible skincare regime at the moment is cleanse with micellar water (or kiehl's face wash) and then moisturise with kiehl's stress minimising moisturiser... which is about the only moisturiser I've found that doesn't irritate my skin or eyes. I need help basically.

SeymoreButts · 10/11/2014 19:06

Also wanted to add that despite having really oily skin and a very congested t-zone, I'm also quite sensitive and prone to eczema! Anyone else cursed in the same way!?

Kundry · 10/11/2014 19:08

Ideally you need a non-foaming face wash - Cetaphil is ideal (thousands of dermatologists can't be wrong Grin)

Then you need some form of daily acid toner to stop the spots coming back - I've posted about my love of Paula's Choice 2% salicylic many times. Effaclar Duo would do the same job, I'm also falling for some of the Vichy Normaderm products. And then an oil and fragrance free moisturiser - which you've already found.

Alpha-H Liquid Gold would be a nice product to use a bit like the chemical peels discussed above - to top things up and keep up the exfoliation. Would like to try it but am happy with my cheapskate option Grin

Kundry · 10/11/2014 19:10

Just seen the eczema bit - I get eczema on the rest of my body but thankfully not on my face. Best thing I ever did was switch to soap- and SLS-free shower gel and shampoo and non-foaming face wash. Just doing this alone practically cleared it all up.

yazzy85 · 10/11/2014 19:50

The Alpha H Liquid Gold toner has 5% glycolic acid and the Bravura one has 10%. Would it be better to use the Bravura one instead or are there other things in the Alpha H that make it special??

OP posts:
Kundry · 10/11/2014 20:12

Bravura has 'toners' that are less and 'peels' that are 10%. Alpha H unhelpfully doesn't list it's ingredients on line so no idea if it has extra loveliness. It's FAQ really just mentions the acid.

TBH 5% is not a lot of glycolic which presumably is why one is every other day and one is once a week.

divingoffthebalcony · 10/11/2014 20:15

I use Alpha H Liquid Gold 2-3 times a week. My skin feels so smooth the next day and I'm hoping in the long term it'll help the scarring.

I tried Decleor Prolagene gel, used it religiously, but didn't get any results.

BOFster · 10/11/2014 20:20

Lloyds Pharmacy online do a red light therapy stick, which is marketed for healing mouth ulcers, but red light is actually very effective at both killing the bacteria which lead to acne and encouraging cells to heal. I'd really recommend it- I use it for all sorts of minor skin abrasions, and you can definitely see a difference.

SeymoreButts · 10/11/2014 20:21

Thanks all! Will grab the cetaphil today and add the other stuff to my Christmas list! I'm not sure if bravura ships to Australia but I can defo get the alpha h stuff here.

Clarabumps · 10/11/2014 22:18

Kundry I have the vichy normaderm cream. Green tube. I like it.

Kundry · 10/11/2014 22:23

I have the Vichy Hyaluspot for emergency spot situations. Although it doesn't work as fast as I'd like (none of the spot-on things really do what they claim) it does get rid of them quicker and without them going flaky and drawing even more attention to themselves - only product that's ever avoided the falkes for me. Love it.

Shop · 10/11/2014 22:55

The difference between the 10% bravura toner and liquid gold (5% AHA) is not just the level of AHAs

Liquid Gold is not a toner it can be used maximum 4 nights a week and only at night. It's a leave on treatment which shouldn't be followed with any night cream or serum etc .
The bravura acid toner I've used can be used every day, twice a day and is followed by serum and/or moisturiser.

I think that's right anyway....

yazzy85 · 11/11/2014 01:02

Thanks Shop that makes sense. I wasn't sure if I needed them both but it does seem they are different products, just wish the Alpha H was cheaper.

Ok, after a fair bit of reading of reviews, I think I'm going to try this paula's choice exfoliant. Kundry is that what you use? Also Cetaphil cleanser and stick with kiehl's moisturiser.

Good luck yazzy85, hopefully we'll be scar free soon!

LackingCommonSense · 11/11/2014 08:17

I just want to give La Roche Effacler Duo a mention here - been using it for ten days now and seen improvements in the number of spots appearing, how long they last and redness.. SO pleased! only needed one layer of foundation this morning and barely any concealer which is a revelation to me! Have ordered the salicylic acid peel which will hopefully sort out what's left but am honestly over the moon Grin

yazzy85 · 11/11/2014 11:37

Thank you ladies for all your advice. I have got my hands on the pixi glow tonic and after using it for a few days I can already see my skin changing for the better! I don't usually get results so quickly from products but incorporating this acid toner into my skincare routine has made a big difference and I look forward to how much my skin will hopefully improve after continued use for a longer time Grin

OP posts:
Clarabumps · 11/11/2014 12:25

I've heard great things about the pix glow tonic. I think that might be next on my purchase list. I was going to get the progalene gel but I might give that a miss for the time being.

Kundry- that's good to know. I normally use the Origins spot treatment but I find it dries out the surrounding area and turns my chin into a flaky mess. My foundation sits like crap for about a week after.

I use my alpha h last night and I opened the lid and i had left the cap up and a load of product had spilled into the lid and ended up down the sink. Sob!! I've got about half left now. bollocks!!

Kundry · 11/11/2014 17:57

Hi Seymoure I use this one:

www.paulaschoice.co.uk/exfoliating-2-beta-hydroxy-acid-lotion.html

I had meant to buy the gel or liquid, but bought the lotion by mistake. It lasts forever as you need a tiny amount and is quite moisturizing by itself so you don't really need a moisturiser as well. However I still think I'd have preferred one of the others as it does tend to leave white streaks if you use too much - the amount needed is really really small.

My skin loves it - spots all cleared up in 6 weeks and none since, unless I get slack about using it.
