What should DH wear?

Tomorrow evening we are going to this gala performance of Matilda . There is no guidance about what we should wear. I am wearing a nice dress, but should DH wear a suit, or a shirt and tie, or just a smart shirt and trousers? Help please, we need to pack!

He should match your level of dressing.
I'd go for at least smart trousers and blazer or a suit and a tie. He can always dress it down, but not up if he's just in shirt and smart trousers.

I'd go for smarter - he can always take tie off and undo a couple of buttons if it's more casual.

I'm not sure how posh a gala this will be - tickets are from £20, so I wouldn't go too mad either.
