We have a John Ryan mattress with a feather topper from Amazon - OMG, I love my bed!
here they even have a 'one month return if not happy' policy!

Lilymaid · 31/10/2014 13:43

Vi Spring too. Preferably super Kingsize. Once you have one you can't go back to anything else.

Crazy8 · 31/10/2014 23:51

Ihadsex Which John Ryan mattress did you choose? Did the company help you choose based on your weight or did you decide for yourself?

ElfLottery · 01/11/2014 00:06

I can recommend my mattress. It was from the White Company. I love, love, love it. Firm, sprung and has those wool tufts (that the cat loves to play with under the bed)

mummaduke · 01/11/2014 00:11

Warren Evans... So so comfy! And reasonably priced too. Go for the firmest pocket sprung you can afford.

LadyRubyPenhaligon · 01/11/2014 17:46

I did come across John Ryan when doing my research and there's a huge amount of info on their website. But in the end the longstanding reputation that vispring have influenced my decision.

Another vote for Vi Spring here, custom made to fit our ikea bed frame. Worth every penny, my back is now in the line it should be. I love going to bed!

happyis · 02/11/2014 23:00

Warren Evans - bloody love it! Ours was the one stuffed with sheep wool but can't remember the name. It had a sheepish smell for the first 4-6 weeks but has worn off now. The mattress is quite firm but lovely and soft when u first lay down. They have regular sales so don't be put off by the prices,

helenmirren · 03/11/2014 10:20

Relyon orthopedic mattress - amazing. now 14 years old and on our spare bed and guests often comment on what a good night's sleep it gives.

Valsoldknickers · 03/11/2014 11:42

I just wanted to make you aware of something when choosing a new mattress based on my recent experience. We bought a new king size 'deep mattress' a few months ago (was pregnant with dodgy back). There are no straps to grab to lift it up. It is really heavy. I am not a weakling, but my DH has to put the topper and fitted sheet on the mattress when we are changing the bed!

It is lovely and comfortable but I never thought about how I would make the bed when shopping for it!

Lilymaid · 03/11/2014 11:57

And, if you are tempted to get a kingsize or superking mattress which needs turning over from time to time, not only do you need handles, but you also have to assess whether you have the strength to do this (we decided to buy zip and link for our superking as it would have been almost impossible to flip it over safely).

helenmirren · 03/11/2014 15:16

to the vi spring people, why are they sooo much more expensive? and why do some cost twice as much as the next one on john lewis?

Lilymaid · 03/11/2014 15:53

Hand made, natural materials, last for years ... ??
We bought ours in JL which has its own Vi Spring range and ours was half the price of the most expensive in the JL range. But it only cost about the same as my annual season ticket to work and I'd much rather be snuggled up in my bed than sat on the train (and it should last rather more than one year too).
The Vi-Spring catalogue is sheer bed porn (in a non sexual way). I quite enjoyed considering the merits of European versus Argentinian horsehair and Shetland wool versus unspecified wool.

We have BeautyRest by Simmons which is very comfortable. We loved Heavenly bed at Westin hotels, it's made by Simmons and costs over $2000. We've been advised that BeautyRest is the closest match by the same manufacturer and we bought it for about $800 including the mattress base at Macy's (in the US).

Ikea mattresses can also be quite comfortable...

TheWholeOfTheSpook · 05/11/2014 04:34

Ours is an 8 year old, $4000 Tempur Pedic. I love it as much now as I did after the 2 weeks it took us to get used to it!

ClaudiaNaughton · 05/11/2014 04:38

Vi spring super king zip link.
