Here we are again.....

On the subject of "American " clothes, I agree with Mrs S re the 80's. Would also add a curious obsession with Chinos and all things preppy. Not just shiny buttons , but pleats in areas that exaggerate ones middle rather than flatter. Oh and taper legged jeans. < shudder>

MrsSchadenfreude · 26/10/2014 11:49

Yes, yes, yes. And Argyll patterned anything - socks, sweaters...

cremolafoam · 26/10/2014 11:51

Re shopping in NYC
I make a beeline for Target( for cheapo stocking fillers), J Crew, ( fashion) fishes eddy( crockery and glassware from old diners and hotels )Plum Party,( amazing party stuff for pence ) Pearl Paint, ( bargain stationary and art equipment, and it's an institution) Modcloth and LL Bean( for ultimate rainwear-that conforms to the Mumsnet quest for bum covering , warm and with a hood )Grin
Gosh, I'd love a trip......

hattymattie · 26/10/2014 12:25

Oh - I think I'd be safe from Argyle and glitzy stuff - really not my thing so that's OK.

MI - dirty stop outWink I don't think I could manage 3.30 these days even with the hour change.

Going to kick everybody outside for a walk in the forest in a minute otherwise they'll play video games all afternoon.

Blackduck · 26/10/2014 12:42

In Comptoir libanais drinking mint tea......

NUFC69 · 26/10/2014 13:15

I am Shock at your staying power, MI.

This morning I have seen an acquaintance wearing a cape-type coat - it looked horrendous and made her look even more rotund than she is. It reminded me of the description in Georgette Heyer's books of men wearing many layered cloaks who belonged to a horse club (name escapes me). So step away from the cape, CV.

I think the question of American clothing is interesting. A close friend lived there for several years and her wardrobe was amazing, but her budget was also amazing. Envy She is back in the UK and her clothes are still wonderful. I think that the US High Street isn't as good as ours but their high end stuff is excellent.

MI, do you still need to speak to me? I will let you know when I am around this week if you do. You must be very excited about your trip.

bigTillyMint · 26/10/2014 13:25

BD, are you in town? How long for?

Cremo, they are some great tips - will try to remember them.

MI, you see - I said 50 was the new 21Grin

motherinferior · 26/10/2014 13:38

It took about an hour and a half to get back.

NU, be great to speak if poss!

motherinferior · 26/10/2014 13:39

Also there was a lot of free champagne and it seemed a pity to let it go to waste. All about the frugal, me.

bigTillyMint · 26/10/2014 13:44

Definitely, MIWink

MrsSchadenfreude · 26/10/2014 14:05

Damn you, Crem, I want to go back now!! Although there is now J Crew in London.

Confession: I have never been to New YorkShock

I am feeling v glad I made too much curry last Sat as I am defrosting reviving leftovers for supper. DP gets in around midnight. Then he's off to Brussels on Wed. I am not in a position to object, really.

Blackduck · 26/10/2014 14:29

MrsS your mid year appraisal was Shock Shock Shock For me it's more about monumental amounts of crap and bad decisions which could leave me with an intolerable workload.

Yes BTM - here until Tuesday - then home. Back to work Wednesday. Already spent a fortune on Ds

Rosebag · 26/10/2014 14:29

Page 6 already…need to catch up. Have read back quite far but couldn't find where MI has been to get so wasted on bubbly. Dirty stop out, indeed Grin Envy
There has been a minimum of hollering chez nous this weekend…I am sadly contemplating the reason for this being the absence of the dynamic of DH and I getting doubly stressed about the DCs behaviour, homework, sloppiness and lippyness (on account of him being away.)
Had such a brilliant night with DD and DS2 in theatreland last night. They are both "Wicked" groupies and it turned out to be the last performance before the cast changeover, so lots of extra ad-libs and treats which delighted the audience. We all got teary eyed at some point in the show.
Have been very lazy and went to local caff rouge for lunch. Now homework and then off to see DSis who has just arrived from the US and is staying with DParents. It is unsettlingly calm here….feeling a bit uneasy about it….

bigTillyMint · 26/10/2014 14:34

That's a shame BD - we're not back here till Tues. If we get there - DD is being monumentally vile.

Blackduck · 26/10/2014 14:38

Doesn't sound promising BTM! I am trying not to think about work....

3.30 MI! I never did that even when I was young!!! (I'm a lark not an owl....)

MrsSchadenfreude · 26/10/2014 14:40

I have seen "Wicked" twice and have no desire to see it again. I saw "Evita" the other week, and it was amazing - would happily see it again. I am going to see Phantom with DD1 in December.

BB has not yet written up my MYR. I am hoping that when she does, it gives her enough rope to hang herself, as she announced that she would "have to mention my health issues" (she can't), and has also asked to see the letters from the hospital (she can't do that either, although the OH team can).

Blackduck · 26/10/2014 14:52

Oh MrsS I really really hope she is stupid enough.....

I

CointreauVersial · 26/10/2014 17:25

OK, OK, I've moved on from the cape. Grin I had a little blast around Primark yesterday as cheap consolation, and bought a black tiered dress, a burgundy shirt, a long, sparkly jumper and a big check scarf. Blush Blush DH bought some grey desert boots with a pink sole (nicer than they sound!).

It has been a lovely long lazy day with the extra hour. I have done lots of "sorting out". DS came back from his football match in high spirits, having beaten a team they never have done before. The DDs spent the afternoon baking cookies for the hamsters. Hmm

Not looking forward to the forthcoming week. DH has the week off, so I will be the only one getting up and leaving the house every morning. It makes me feel very hard done by.

bigTillyMint · 26/10/2014 19:05

CV, given the shouty state of DD, leaving DH to it would be bliss! Wicked wasn't my fav either though the girls loved it. We are going to see Ms Saigon this Christmas.

Here's hoping MrsS.

beachyhead · 26/10/2014 19:41

Reporting in from Camp Doggy! It's all happened so fast, phoned the number on the bottom of the RSPCA website on Thursday, went to see him on Friday and picked him up on Saturday!

It turns out he was rescued from Cyprus last week, he had been in a foster home there since he was 6 months. The RSPCA work closely with these small rescue charities who bring the dogs in, then rehome them. I'm so shocked that two weeks ago he was in a hot sunny climate, then had a week in Surrey in another foster home with umpteen dogs and now he's here. He's settled in brilliantly, he's very gentle and submissive but very strong!

We have some training to do Grin

cremolafoam · 26/10/2014 19:48

Oh Beachy! How lovely. What a poor doggie ? How did he get to Blighty? On a plane?
Has a name suggested itself to you yet? And don't say Limassol. Lol
GrinGrinGrin How lovely he has found you.

beachyhead · 26/10/2014 19:59

Here he is for you, Crem! And other none FB users.... He's called Dylan.
