Here we are again.....

Herbs, that dress is lovely! I see all manner of drinks party and supper uses. Sorry about your lesson. I think we have all wept over our teaching at some point. It does get easier, honest. Weekend soon. What are you and your gorgeous boy up to? Shall we try to do a Thursday coffee this side of Christmas in Russell Square? I would really like that.

bigTillyMint · 07/11/2014 16:40

Nice, Herbs - very on 80's trend, and daringly shortShockGrin
Don't fret about the lesson. Wine will help. Get your mentors phone no, then you can text/call in a panic and she's more likely to get it!

StroppsGrin

Looking forward to going to the pub when DH gets back - definitely need a drink tonight!

NUFC69 · 07/11/2014 17:17

I will have a look at the dress when I am on the laptop, Herbs. Enjoy your weekend and forget about the teaching practice for a while.

BTM, well the French sherry trifle I now do is: take a large bowl and put in trifle sponges (split and spread with strawberry jam, top with amaretti biscuits (the small ones), soak liberally with sherry. Top with a good quality custard, then whip double cream until fairy stiff and fold through whipped egg whites, a spot of caster sugar and brandy. Spread over the custard and decorate with the odd cherry and amaretti biscuits. Leave for a couple of hours to ensure that the sherry soaks well. Delicious. Just an assembly job really.

bigTillyMint · 07/11/2014 17:23

NU, that sounds lush. Trifle is one of my favouritesSmile

Auriga · 07/11/2014 17:50

I know what you mean about losing confidence on the entertainment front, Rudy but your menu is more gourmet than anything I would attempt. It'll be lovely.

Herbs and Stropps, KBO, it's a lot to take on & bound to be scary. Sounds as though you're both bearing up amazingly well.

CV, shame bathroom will take so long. Ours was a long-drawn-out saga involving big holes in the landing, moving the boiler, sacking an electrician, making a tiler remove and re-apply a load of tiles he'd messed up and calling the plumbers back three times over leaks. One of which was, of course, behind a twice-tiled section of wall. But it was all worth it and we really appreciated the results.

Good and bad news here:

Good - text from ill sister. She is taking the meds. She wished DH a happy birthday
Bad - dog ate my lunch. DH left it on low table Sad
Good - heard of a professional success. Not the team this time. Just me. Delighted.
Bad - washing machine dead. But good - JL delivered replacement today Grin
More good - DD through to national semi-final of public speaking comp. she's thrilled. Still more distraction from GCSEs.

Off to make birthday cake Wine

CointreauVersial · 07/11/2014 18:06

Humph. So you shot my poncho/capey thing down in flames, but Rudy's is just darling. Wink

Anyway, I've moved on, and ordered a furry coat. Ponchoes are soooo 2014.

Thanks for your bathroom sympathies. The worrying thing is, they haven't even started work yet, and if I'm freaking out now, I'm going to be off the scale once they get going. I had to email the bathroom company to apologise for my stressy outburst on the phone yesterday. I could almost see him backing away from the phone ("okaaaay then, errrr...") as I wailed on. The flooring issue is nothing whatsoever to do with him, by the way. Grin Must. Calm. Down.

Auriga - lots going on! Great news about DD and your professional triumph (I could do with one of them). Has your chest sorted itself out?

Aww Herbs. Thanks Thanks Wine Wine . In fact, lots of Wine

CointreauVersial · 07/11/2014 18:11

Ladee, your dress is lovely! Too posh for my office, though.

Here's my furry coat by the way. I did get a discount.

OP posts:
hattymattie · 07/11/2014 18:42

That coat is well poshCV[smile

addle · 07/11/2014 19:14

lovely dress, lovely coat

congrats on all sorts auriga

can I recommend Nigel Slater's trifle from Real Fast Food - quick and delicious; always make it at Christmas to balance the Christmas pudding, accompanied every single year by my lovely MIL saying 'do you think it's really necessary?'. Yes.

i'm in for s.s. if that's still going on? £5 and post?

xx

bigTillyMint · 07/11/2014 19:54

Love the furry coat CV. I used to have a black furry coat with a hood. I don't know why I binned it

Just been out for a drink and food at the pub with DH and DD. Would have been lovely, but DD was a bit "on one" about school, etcHmm

Blackduck · 07/11/2014 20:13

stropps :)

Furry coats! No, just no! Well not for me anyway....

Here the relentless work crap continues and dp has just scuppered my Monday night out ...

MollyAir · 07/11/2014 20:26

I do like that coat, CV; and that dress.

Secret Santa by post, 5 max, all good.

Stropperella · 07/11/2014 20:54

Dd: "No one buy me a present from Tkmaxx"
Me: "Why?"
dd: "Because it smells in there and the pants have been worn".
I think maybe the branch that is local to us is less full of bargains than some of the ones other crepeys frequent.

CointreauVersial · 07/11/2014 22:40

Aww....my lovely DH came home with a bunch of flowers and a box of my favourite chocs, because I'd had a tough week. I don't deserve him.

OP posts:
Auriga · 07/11/2014 23:34

Secret santa YY

Stropperella · 07/11/2014 23:41

Congrats on all this week's successes, Auriga!
You do have a lovely dh, CV. And I'm Envy of you being able to rock the fluffy coat. Smile

Herbs, I woke up this morning worrying about your foot. I feel you should take your academic reading and do it while waiting to get an x-ray. Sorry to hear about today's lesson not going so well.

herbaceous · 08/11/2014 09:23

I'm touched, stropps! I'm going to take it to the 'walk-in' X-ray clinic on Monday. As I'm assuming it's not open on the weekend - can't find anything about it online. I can take one of my thrilling books with me.

In some ways I hope it does have a small fracture, as that can probably be sorted, rather than something more mysterious.

bigTillyMint · 08/11/2014 09:45

That sounds like a good plan Herbs.

Lucky you CV - hope the DC don't get to them!

Stropps[shock) Does your DD think it's a charity shop?! It is like a jumble sale in all the ones I've been to, but there are some great bargains to be had!

I have been to the gym and am now going to ferry DD and friend to revision sessions at school and in the library. Then I need to find more sparklers - Aldi? Asda?

motherinferior · 08/11/2014 10:15

RIGHT!!!

I have spent yesterday and today finding enough Stuff to fill ten (10, X) pages of my Crumblymag. Well, less than that as there will be crossword puzzles and stuff, but it has still been a long slog.

Livened only by telling DP airily that obviously he has to go to various meetings Grin

Off to have haircut. Must also dye it. And brows (newly threaded). And lashes. And paint toenails.

DSis - not exactly one of nature's porkers herself- has texted me in fury about my mother's idea of a portion size. A small potato is not 'huge'. A spoonful of food is not a 'huge helping'. And so on. She's always been like this.

bigTillyMint · 08/11/2014 14:51

MI and breatheWink

Hoping for a bit of relaxation now - found the sparklers and various Christmas goodies despite the traffic, back to sort washing, shopping, lunch and run (no joke, but DS was impressed!) to train to LB to meet outlaws and DS old neighbour whose ship is docked next to HIS Belfast. They have gone off to watch the rugby so I am going home to do the ironingWink

CointreauVersial · 08/11/2014 16:48

BTM - no chance of the DCs scoffing my chocs - I cunningly favour Ferrero Raffaellos, which are coated in coconut, therefore repel anyone under the age of 18. Smile

We are trying to galvanise ourselves to go out and watch a firework display. The biggest in the South East, I think, and it will involve buses, because the roads are closed and the car parks are extortionate. I'm not sure I have the energy, especially as it is forecasted to pee down all evening. DS and DD1 are going off with friends, but DD2 is in a grump because she's stuck with us.

Meanwhile, I had a brief wander around Reigate this afternoon, and found this in a charity shop, new with tags, and in my size. Perfect for my forthcoming ball!

OP posts:
herbaceous · 08/11/2014 16:51

At the xmas meet up, we all have to wear something from a charity shop! How's that for larks!

Right. I must actually do something productive with DS. He's been playing on the computer or on my phone for about two hours now.

bigTillyMint · 08/11/2014 16:54

CV I wouldn't scoff them either!

Herbs, eeek! Where shall we meet this time, anyway?

bigTillyMint · 08/11/2014 16:58

CV, you can wear your fur coat with the dress for the ball!

Rosebag · 08/11/2014 17:30

I have just made the sticky toffee pudding…i was very tempted to do trice instead after Tilly's comment and NU's fantastic French recipe but stickiness prevailed in the end. Beachy what's wrong with stew/pie for a dinner party…everyone likes those and really comforting in winter, no?
Auriga I think thats more good news that badSmile and congratulations on your and DD's achievements!

CV Envy

Some of you Crepeys seems to be acquiring some amazing charity shop outfits! I think I disqualify as a Crepey as I rarely even go in to one. Clearly I am missing out big time. I am especially miffed as I found
this
and it has to come from the US with silly shipping and return charges. Actually I want it in the red and the black…. Angry

Haven't achieved much today. DD is hormonal and DS keeps making her cry. DH and I are off to the theatre in Hampstead to see a play that doesn't have an interval Hmm

BTW where's Cremo?
