Here we are again.....

32" 34" jeans - BTM - respect!

NUFC69 · 28/10/2014 21:50

Addle, glad to hear that your DDad's send off went well. Take care of yourself.

MrsS, I hope the medicinal wine is working its magic. I had an epidural when I had my knee replacement (plus something to make me drowsy) and I definitely roused to hear the surgeon using an electric saw. Shock I certainly couldn't look at any surgery taking place on me.

BTM, I second making sure that your DM hasn't got an infection of some sort - it's happened to me and I felt very disorientated. Plus is she worried about anything? When we saw DSisiL last week she was all over the place because of her husband's health problems (he has Hepatitis E, by the way). She is normally ok.

Sorry about your work problems, MI. I will be in touch in the morning.
Herbs, commiserations on your crepey symptoms.

It's been 19 degrees here today, but very windy - the beach wasn't a good idea because the sand was blowing in our faces. The DGC enjoyed themselves, though.

bigTillyMint · 28/10/2014 22:01

Wilbur, he is still only 13 and a half, and not a bit of flab on him!

That is good advice about finding out if DM has an infection, but how would I go about it? She definitely wasn't ill or complaining of anything whilst we were there and I am now 200 miles away again!
She has always been one to get in a tizz easily - bit of a family joke, and has always failed to understand "new" stuff without someone to help her idiots-guide-stylie, so I think it's pretty likely that this is just getting worse rather than something new IYSWIM.
If I call her doctors/health centre, would they call her in for an appointment? She definitely wouldn't just go if I said I was worried about her!

lalsy · 28/10/2014 22:06

Wilbur, Grin. And yes of course about Addle.

MrsS, how hideous, I hope you are feeling better. I often prefer to watch these things though so I can understand why you were tempted.

I used to give blood regularly (definitely enjoyed watching that) and then had to stop because none of them knew whether some blood products I had received ruled me out, which I thought rather feeble.

lalsy · 28/10/2014 22:13

BTM, I think confusion can be made worse by undiagnosed UTI. I don't know, but I think if you are concerned about her you could tell both her GP and social services - she may need a medical assessment as well as daily living (can't remember the term)? Given the distance, this isn't something you can be managing day to day. I am sorry, it is a tough situation.

CointreauVersial · 28/10/2014 23:09

Definitely check out UTIs, BTM; they used to send my Gran totally doolally; she'd be hallucinating and talking nonsense one minute, then after a course of antibiotics would be a totally different person. We thought she'd had a stroke the first time it happened.

We are trying to interest the DCs in "doing something" on Friday, when we are all off. They have shown no enthusiasm whatsoever. Miserable blighters.

Blackduck · 29/10/2014 07:05

MrsS sorry about the horrid surgery - and yes I hate it when others get seen before me. I once threw a major strop in the dentist when having booked first appointment of the day so I could get to work on time he came in and swanned around doing other stuff. When I pointed this out to the receptionist she said 'he's got work to do'. To which I pointed out I had work too ....

Rose - hope all okay - sorry your day was ruined.

Here off to work and 100 emails in two days..... Plus 'the meeting' re the piece of work that could potentially push me over the edge......

MI - my snorer can join yours - a sharp elbow in the ribs doesn't seem to work anymore.

Here the dog insurance has arrived and is heart stoppingly high and every other bulb in the house has blown.

MontserratCaballe · 29/10/2014 08:01

BTM, I know my poor old dad has had terrible trouble with confusion caused by UTIs, to the extent he has been admitted for it. Apparently the usual UTI symptoms (needing to wee, sore wee etc) may not be as pronounced. I hope you can get it sorted.

MrsS, I am so sorry about the surgery. Hope you are comfortable now. Are you off work today? Take it easy.

Rose, sorry your day was spoilt. How are you this morning? Have you got some restful plans for the day? I dreamt that I met you at a drinks party last night and you had an entire library in your back garden. It was very odd.

BD, Shock at the pet insurance. Have you done a go compare type thing?

I have ladyjogged, but came home to the wrath of DH as he had wanted to catch the early train. Oops. Now about to get in the shower and take the children to Caffe Nero for breakfast. It's a half term thing in our house. They get to eat whatever they want (cake and hot choc) and I get a decent cup of coffee which I don't have to make. Result.

motherinferior · 29/10/2014 09:08

BTM, I'd start by calling the doctor about her. Again, I think some of the helplines can be v useful here - I know it's where I'd start.

I've had a decent night's sleep and am ready to cope with CDiff. My mum rang to say there's a cancellation and she starts chemo tomorrow - my sister is grimly prepared to go and stay there for a bit (she is a SAINT, my sister, my father would drive me utterly barking quite apart from my mum's ability to do so even when well). I really hope she's replaced her happy pills after the doggy-scoffing.

motherinferior · 29/10/2014 09:12

Snigger at Monty's dream - that's when you know you're a true Crepey, when this thread starts invading your subconscious.

Rosebag · 29/10/2014 09:47

wilbur Venice sounds lovely. ( I'd be a suicide risk if I went anywhere with my in laws....you saint!)
Yes tilly the GP should be able to diagnose UTI or other infection. The elderly don't tend to show fever, pain etc just growing confusion. And while she's there he/she might refer to geriatriatrician.
CV could you "do something" and leave the blighters to their misery? Grin
BD good luck with the meeting. Don't go over the edge. Perhaps join me and MrsS with Herbs remedy. I had a nice G&T last night and imagined the offending males begging for mercy under my stiletto. It didn't really help though....
Thanks Monty. I slept badly but am letting go of the anger. It's better for ones health, isn't it. Shame really.. I do so enjoy plotting revenge. Perhaps your dream is a sign that we should meet? No books in my garden though. Just a trampoline and climbing frame that I must get on and eBay. My kids haven't used them in a month of Sundays.
Good luck to your DM and DSis today MI
Well I suppose I'd better get up. Not answering the email though. Perversely I'm quite enjoying sulking. Hmm

Blackduck · 29/10/2014 09:51

Monty - ha ha at dream!
Yes, I did a compare thing and got a cheaper deal (I only really do it for the third party liability....)

MI - much strength re mum

motherinferior · 29/10/2014 09:56

My blighters are feeling putupon by such appalling things as the demand they hoover their rooms (DP, who usually does it, was away last weekend and ahem the cats are flea-ridden Blush) and put washing away.

Stropperella · 29/10/2014 10:16

MrsS, so sorry to hear you've been chopped about again. Hope it's not too horribly sore today.
BD, bon courage for the meeting. Btw, if you are only getting insurance for the third party thingy, it's worth considering Dogs Trust membership. I pay £25 a year and the third party liability insurance is a membership benefit included with that.
Rose, sorry to hear about the crap end to your day. Maybe if you don't answer the email, they may realise their mistake??
BTM, yup, def worth checking out the UTI thing. I dealt with someone in the course of my work last year who went stark, raving bonkers in the course of 3 days due to a UTI. She was in her late 80s.
Here, I am supposed to be wading through a mountain of work for my course, making up for rather winging it for the first few weeks due to the building work, but Things keep getting in the way. Not least suddenly finding myself organising a Halloween party for too many boys (ages ranging from 7 to 11) at my house on Friday. This will include my nephews, who are visiting. They are prone to... lively behaviour.

Stropperella · 29/10/2014 10:17

MI - fingers crossed here for your mum. And for your sister's sanity.Smile

Stropperella · 29/10/2014 10:21

And, oh gosh, Addle - adding my "well done" to everyone else's. I didn't speak at my dad's send-off, for various reasons, and it is something I have regretted in some respects.

hattymattie · 29/10/2014 11:05

Addle - I'm so glad your father's send off was a good one. I'm dreading all this which is inevitably to come.

MI - wishing your Mum well for her chemo - and I have the same problem with my DC's - I am trying to educate DS to make his bed and not leave his pyjamas strewn across the floor. He only has to straighten a duvet!

Both DS and I have been to the orthodontist so we are having an early lunch before the pain kicks in!

DD1 has left a message that she wants to Skype - I hope everything is OK as usually we chase her for news. I can confirm though on her last viewing she had not dyed her hair green.

Mrs S - hope your mole scar is getting better. DS had one removed from his upper arm last week - it was about a centimetre across and has left a gash of about three centimetres. He had two big stitches which have been removed plus another under the skin which should dissolve.

Blackduck · 29/10/2014 11:40

Bugger Stropps wish I'd known that! Have just organised alternative insurance - but may talk to dp about it as I could cancel....

Here I have a lovely meal planned for Friday night (just me and dp.....can't wait...)

20 mins to meeting.....

Rosebag · 29/10/2014 13:04

I have just had an unprompted, wonderfully grovelling email from ConS and HerrD.
Ha haaaaaaaaaaaa Grin

motherinferior · 29/10/2014 13:24

YAY for the grovelers!

In other news, our shower has fallen apart. DP, marginally less useless than I am at such things, is away till Friday night and says he recommends baths till then. More seriously my sis is ill and can't go to be with our mum. We had v frank convo - as in "do you think I should move heaven and earth to go" and she will try to go on Friday. She's feeling absolutely awful about it, as it was the thing she was going to be doing...

In all honesty I think this isn't the time when I need to be moving heaven and earth and calling in favours. If you know what I mean. But god I hope my father is vaguely competent with it.

bigTillyMint · 29/10/2014 13:41

Oh dear, MI. Is your sister ill with her MH issues or something else? Do your parents absolutely need someone to be with them before the weekend?

Hatty, hope all is well with your DD - how nice that she is chasing you for a change!

Rose, that's good news!

How are you today, MrsS?

herbaceous · 29/10/2014 14:11

Bah. My lovely Icelandic coat arrived. It is top notch quality, and would be brilliant, but it's too small. And not just on the usual tits and arse area, but across the shoulders, which is weird as I'm pretty narrow-shouldered. And because I got it from a discount site I can't exchange it for another one, but have to return it. At my expense. I can feel a trip to TK Maxx coming on this afternoon.

NUFC69 · 29/10/2014 14:23

MI, sorry to hear about the problems with your DM and DSis. I think you are wise not to call in favours at this time. I am still battling against fleas, too. The Frontline isn't working (probably Nucat has too many for it to work). We're using the nit comb every night and have now bought an aerosol from the vets for the house which they say will work (almost had to take out a mortgage for it).

Rose, that must make you feel better.

Another glorious day and I spent the morning at the dental hospital. DH is still wrestling with the thorny problem of putting up the curtain pole. It has been up once, but came down when we started to put the curtains on it. He has now decided that the answer is a baton which will be glued and nailed in place - if this comes down it will bring all the plaster down.

Stropps, good luck with the Halloween party - you will need it. I hope everyone is enjoying the half term holidays?

motherinferior · 29/10/2014 14:27

She's ill with something infectious, poor love. Sounds grim.

And now I've got the mag I've quizzed many of you for chasing me again...this time for someone who hates their job Grin. Because that's SO easy to find someone who'll go on record about, obviously.

herbaceous · 29/10/2014 14:32

Rich pickings on here, MI! I don't have a job, so 'I'm out', as Deborah Meaden would say. Surely names can be changed to protect the innocent?

Still doing my PGCE assignment. Need to include lots of boring admin stuff from my tutors - like details of summative assessments, how plans fit with the curriculum - which I suspect they don't actually do...
