What causes thread veins on cheeks?

Just noticed some thread veins on my cheeks and not best pleased. I don't want to get rid of them but do want to prevent more. Where do they come from? How do I discourage the feckers? I'm 38 and not massively outdoorsy, not sure if that's relevant. Moisturiser?

In my case, caused by pregnancy. :( As far as I know the only way to definitely get rid of them is lasering, which I can't do yet as I'm still BF (think it's something to do with the hormones). Would be interested to know about preventing more, not planning more offspring but definitely don't want any more delightful splotches from other sources.

Age, Rosacea, Menopause, Red Wine mostly but any alcohol.
Its a right pain in the neck.
Lasers do work but the little feckers come back after a few months.
