Waists on dresses

Are too high.

What does it mean when the "waist" on a frock sits just at the bottom of my ribs? Am I weird shape and I've never realised?

It's not comfortable but sometimes I want to be "grownup dress lady"

No, you're not a weird shape, this happens to me too (the body of the dress is often too long too, so I end up with a hump of empty material at my shoulder blades but that's another story!).

Itscurtainsforyou · 21/10/2014 17:56

I have exactly this.

I also have boob-lines (seam on empire lines etc) sit right across my boobs and looks ridiculous.

I don't know but they are always too high on me too- I buy long length even though I'm only 5'4" which sometimes helps. Love a dress which actually has a waist on my waist!

CointreauVersial · 21/10/2014 18:28

Happens to me too; I'm just long waisted. I often have to move belt loops down on cardigans, dresses and coats.

But it is also the fashion, particularly in the "younger" shops, to have the waistline quite high, particularly if the skirt is short. It lengthens legs.

Me too! I end up looking five months' pregnant, with the added appeal of low-slung boobs. And then the bloody dress shrinks, and matters get even worse.

CalamitouslyWrong · 21/10/2014 19:42

It might lengthen legs, but it makes your torso look stumpy and weird. I have a disproportionately short body compared to my legs (I'm 5'4 with legs the same length as 6' DH) and still the waists are always too high. My waist cannot be there because that's still ribcage.

UriGeller · 21/10/2014 20:30

Yes it does make me look like I've got longer legs but a stumpy upper. I know my legs are long enough because they reach all the way to the ground. Never thought I had a long waist but now you mention it, I always get crotch munch in a swimming costume too.

Me too. And I am fairly normally proportioned, IMO.

This happens me all the time too. Top/skirt combo is the way to go to have everything hitting in the right places!
