OPI Glitter Off Peelable Base Coat

Saw this in a shop yesterday and have seen some good reviews online, anyone tried it? I wear glitter nail polishes a lot around Christmas but they are a total pain to remove.

There are a few ways of removing glitter, my favourite is to take one cotton ball and divide into 5 small balls. dip into polish remove and place the small ball on the nail, wrap the nail in tinfoil. Repeat for all nails leaving tinfoil and ball in place. Go make a cuppa etc and in 5 minutes or so remove foil and glitter will just slide off.

PVA glue also works well as a glitter base, but it has a tendency to peel. It's great for a 1 night wear but any more than that is perhaps pushing it a bit.

Yes, see that isn't my idea of an easy way to get glitter off, I've done that (also when I've had gels done) and regard it as a complete PITA, I can never get the foil wrapped round all 10 nails at once as it keeps falling off, then it falls off while you are waiting, it's one reason I only have gel for holidays. Oh and it seems to take at least 20 mins on me. So I was looking for something a bit easier really. Ik've also read the same about the PVA glue too, although never tried it.

This stuff is supposed to be good but it's a pain to get hold of now Sephora don't have shops in the UK.

I tried the PVA glue base coat Grin works a treat although I do agree it doesn't last an especially long time. The bonus is it is hugely satisfying peeling off glittery polish.

AlmaMartyr · 21/10/2014 21:13

I use Barry M basecoat and then a couple of layers of whatever (invariably glitter) polish I'm using. Lasts OK and peels off very easily when I get bored. I'm always a bit worried that peeling it off isn't very good for my nails but doesn't seem to be causing them any harm.

WhoKnowsWhereTheSlimeGoes · 21/10/2014 21:15

I think I'll try the PVA glue, maybe over a colour polish so if it suddenly peels off it won't look too weird. Luckily I bought some for the DCs yesterday Smile.

X-posted, never tried Barry M basecoat, I'm using Maybelline at the moment. I think I saw a cheaper peelable one somewhere but can't remember where, might have been MUA.

WhoKnowsWhereTheSlimeGoes · 21/10/2014 21:19

Yes, MUA do one, £2 as opposed to OPI at £13

AlmaMartyr · 21/10/2014 21:20

It isn't meant to be a peelable one, it just works that way for me. Cheap enough to be worth a go though, especially if they've got an offer on, found some Christmassy Barry M ones recently with stars in which appeal to my inner magpie.

I once applied about four layers of OPI Rainbow Connection one NYE (when they had their Muppet Collection out)
Lasted less than 24 hours , came off in chunks but took over an hour to remove properly. Never again.

I know 4 layers sounds excessive but it was yuk at one and like foil at four.

Thanks for that link, Kitty for the glitter nail varnish remover. I love glitter on my nails but I just stick with matte gel or metalic as glitter in my experience is a P.I.T.A to remove and I like to change my nail color everyday to match my out fit.
