I discovered DOUBLE CLEANSING last night!

I knew what it was but didn't do it properly , just used some micellar water and used a warm flannel afterwards.

My skin has been dreadful the last week, dry and flaky and it didn't matter how much moisturiser I used it was still dry, like sand paper dry!

So I vaguely remembered Jo Fahley (?) The Beauty Bible woman saying cleansing is more important than moisturising as it doesn't matter how much moisturiser you use if your skin isn't properly cleansed it won't absorb it.

Sooo,I dug out some Body Shop aloe cleanser, took off my make up with it and then used it again and removed with a muslin flannel and warm water. Then moisturised.

Woke up this morning and my skin feels incredible!

Definitely going to carry on doing it. I understand Caroline Hirons is a big fan. I spent all evening reading her blogGrin

I'm going to get some body shop Camomile balm cleanser as she says it's similar to clinique take the day off and the Emma Hardie cleanser.

I can't tell you what a difference it's made,I was despairing, my skin was dire!

So, I've already got a stack of washcloths for this double-cleansing lark, but can anyone recommend a cleanser please?

Something cheap please! And fairly generic (am in Aus so no Boots etc). Cetaphil?

WellTidy · 15/10/2014 08:55

I've just looked at the Caroline Hirons double cleansing cheat sheet. I am so confused. Too much, too much.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 15/10/2014 12:22

Koala-any cleanser that's good on your skin I suppose. Just trial and error. Do you have the body shop there?

Wrt the cheat sheet, this is my take on it-

Put cleanser on DRY skin and massage in to remove make up, either use cotton wool pads or a warm flannel.

Then massage more cleanser in and remove with warm flannel.

Cetaphil is a face wash isn't it? I don't know if using a face wash is the same as cleansing. I never use the stuff.

You can hot cloth cleanse with any old cream cleanser though regardless of whether it says you can or not, they all work.

Koaloadownunder. I am in Aus. If you have Priceline I am in a WA so not sure if Priceline chemist is in all states. They have the Santuary range in there as sold in Boots & have a hot cloth cleanser in that range. Also I think Body shop must do one.

KoalaDownUnder · 15/10/2014 17:08

Oh Kittykat, I am in WA too! (Perth). And yes, they have the Sanctuary range in the Priceline near me, but I didn't realise Sanctuary did a hot cloth cleanser! Thanks so much Thanks (and to everyone else for suggestions)

Thanks to you all I have now got lovely skin too. Been doing this double cleansing for a week and it has def made a difference, skin feels smoother and make up goes on really nicely.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 24/10/2014 18:53

The make up thing is really noticeable, isn't it? It makes a huge difference. I'm still doing it and my skin has been transformed,I actually use only about a third of the amount of moisturiser I was previously.Smile

Couple of good ones I've used for cleansing
Clinique take the day off balm - no scent, lasts ages
Balmology neroli cleanser - the smell is incredible but too pricey for me to use all the time
REN hot cloth cleanser - smells a bit of rose, more a thick cream than a balm
RMS coconut - basically coconut oil, very solid but melts quickly

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 25/10/2014 08:03

Thanks goodSmile -apparently a dupe of clinique is the body shop Camomile balm, I'm waiting for it to be delivered, looking forward to trying it.
