Nails

I want nice nails. I was always told as a girl that fake nails ruin your nails for life, is that true?

I would get them redone every couple of weeks or so. I've had shellac before but I find on my nails it just doesn't last the full two weeks and ends up looking really scruffy. What should I get done? Gel nails?

Help me!

I think it's different for everyone, My nails were already ruined, different lengths ect. I was told I had weakened them through painting, but there's no way I go out without them polished.
In the end they got that bad that I went and got sculptured nails. I paint them everyday and they're fine.
It depends what you want. If you like change then I'd do what I did. Get them plain (application includes polish application, which can be removed). The ones with the white tips are nice, but too plain for me.

I have "fake" nails and have had on and off for about 5 years. They do make your nails slightly weaker but my nails are in such bad condition anyway so it makes no difference to me. I have very brittle nails and a fan shaped nail with a tiny nailbed. No matter what I do I can not get a nice natural nail, so I fake it.

I wear a shortish round shaped acrylic nail which are mostly painted red/coral or beige/nude.
I love it, have it done every two weeks (hate that process mind, v boring) and then dont have to think about my hands and nails for another two weeks. It has become essential maintainence for me and I always feel polished and done when looking at my hands. It looks natural and groomed and just nice I think.

In an ideal world I would have nice natural nails but regardless of effort I cant get there and feel alot better about myself when I have them done. I do take them off and have bare hands every so often to give the nails as well as my bank balance a break. There are times when I cant afford to have them done but when I can it is one of the first things that I prioritise as it makes such a big difference to how I feel about myself.
