American tan tights?

I have a dress for work that would definitely look better with my normal leg colour than black tights. I always wear thick black tights with work dresses but clearly didn't think this through when buying this dress. It's too cold for bare legs, will American tan (are they still even called that?) work instead?

I think nude tights are very ageing and dated personally.. Unfortunately it can make dressing in winter more difficult....

CharlotteSimmons · 13/10/2014 09:36

Ah happythat is EXACTLY my concern, not quit sure how to get round it...a couple of weeks ago it would have been fine, but it's so much colder now.

It is annoying isn't it? And no matter how nude they profess to be you can always spot them a mile off! Grr..

HappyGirlNow · 13/10/2014 10:10

And I don't think you can get round it - I just avoid clothes that don't go with black/grey tights in the winter...

I do think (at least I think I think!) that nude micronets are a better alternative to nude tights but not sure how warm they'd be for winter...

CharlotteSimmons · 13/10/2014 10:25

Ooh what are micro nets?
I hadn't actually thought about grey tights, I might be able to carry off grey. Black are definitely too dark/severe but grey might work, will buy a pair and see (have only worn black tights until now so feel very daring indeed!)

John Lewis do a range of nude tights called Barely There, they are the only ones I've ever found that look very natural (you'd have to look closely to see them when on). I live outside the UK now but still buy these tights online and have them shipped abroad as I can't find anything locally that is better

I have this issue too. I wore a dress at a wedding over the weekend that looked way, way too severe with black or coloured tights, especially for a sunny wedding. So I wore nude ones. So much better, but I get that they seem dated. I wore the suntan ones from Boots.

Greengardenpixie · 13/10/2014 11:16

Could you get away with sheer black? Sometimes black with a 10 denier are fine as they let some flesh show through.

Greengardenpixie · 13/10/2014 11:17

I actually think nude tights are fine. The next ones are the best match for my pale olive tone. Its a case of finding your match. I like the oiled look best.

Micronets are like very fine fishnets:

SarahGoodwin33 · 13/10/2014 13:59

I too think nude tights are fine as long as they are a subtle shade and not to think!
But I have to say in winter I stick with dark opaque when I can

Cheesymonster · 13/10/2014 14:07

I wear nude/natural ones from boots. Not gloss ones though.

SarahGoodwin33 · 13/10/2014 14:15

I agree, not too glossy. They're for air stewardesses and make up counter girls...!

hollyisalovelyname · 13/10/2014 16:27

I got he micronetd but was a bit disappointed as I've skinny legs (below the knee only Sad) and they looked sort of thick and were very noticeable.
Perhaps I got the wrong brand ?
I think they were Jonathan Aston.

CharlotteSimmons · 13/10/2014 23:37

I bought some 'natural' ones today but think they are going to be too shiny, they looked OK in the pack but I think it's too much, will see if I can get a more Sheeny than shiny pair if that makes sense
