What to start with?

I've not really spent time or effort on my clothes or make up for ten years. I do have a haircut/ colour (pink!) and I do shape my eyebrows.
I want to start looking after myself. I'd like a perfume, a style in my wardrobe, to wear make up. I just don't know where to start. I have a limited budget and so would do a little at a time. I'm 40, apple shaped 20/22 currently.

Any advice gratefully received.

If you don't already, I'd start a skincare routine. Figure out what skin type you are (you could go to one of the counters at boots etc and ask for advice, you don't have to buy high end stuff (although I've found origins stuff to be really good)).

Then either get your colours done or figure out the colours that suit you and review your wardrobe, getting rid of things that don't suit/fit/flatter you.

You could look into style typing - I'm still trying to get my head around this, but it would give you an idea of what type of clothes to go for.

I'm a similar size to you and have found nice clothes by Joe Browns, Asos, new look etc.

Thank you Curtains. I stick a bit of moisturiser on every now and then so need to look at that.
I'm off to google the rest Smile

I would also say if there is someone like a celeb etc who you like the makeup of why not try and replicate this? There are tons of videos on YouTube telling you how to create lots if looks. Some super glam and some quick and natural.

You wear your face every day so make the best of it Smile

What's style typing ??? Please

Itscurtainsforyou · 13/10/2014 16:43

This is the best (free) summary I've found of style type/identities
www.truth-is-beauty.com/blog/style-identities-part-ii-the-truth-is-beauty-style-identity-system

Although it's similar to having your colours done, you can make an educated guess on the basis of this info.
