I've been eyeing the 12R Engineer boots, does anyone have them? They look like they could be the perfect biker. I don't know the brand at all though, what is S&B's collective wisdom?

I've just got the 8rs and they are fab . Need to take time to break them in though as the leather is quite stiff . Look great with leggings , skinnies etc .

Frye boots are fab...been making quality leather boots for a long time...I've got a vintage pair of their cowboy boots...just gorgeous. I'm eyeing their engineer boots too....

I've been eyeing their engineer boots as well - are they really heavy? I walk a lot and sometimes find heavier boots really tiring to walk in (like my Dr Martens biker boots).

Oooh thank you for the replies! Would you both recommend getting normal size? Reviews seem a bit confusing re sizing up/down. Astoria, how high up do the 8Rs come on you? Are they on the ankle?

yong that's really good to know, glad to hear they last so well.

I have a few pairs of Frye boots, long and short - I love them Grin

The reviews are very confusing, but I'm a pretty average UK size 5 and that size has been perfect in all of the styles.

Maybemyrtle the 8rs come above the ankle by about 2 inches . Not mid calf by any stretch though. They are quite wide across the foot opening. I debated between the 8s and 12s and decided by googling images and comparing. Apparently these boots are a celeb favourite which I hadn't realised till doing this!

They boots are heavy and are very solid. Hence as someone else has said they should last well.
Size wise I'm a 5 1/2 and went for a 6 which are perfect, however I normally go for a 6 in boots (US 8 on frye site ) . Hope this helps

I have these and they are amazing biker boots:

totally sturdy. Look great on. Not Frye though.

I love Frye boots but sadly they don't love me. The pull on ones like the Engineers won't go over my instep so I can't get them on. I know people who have them though and they just get better with age.
