You could try YouTube, look for every day makeup tutorial and find one you like to replicate Smile

Look at Tanya Burr on YouTube - she's young, but does a nice, natural look.

SarahBeenysBumblingApprentice · 09/10/2014 18:28

I think Lisa Eldridge's site is great. She does tutorials on everything, from the basics to full looks.

Carpaccio · 09/10/2014 18:32

Lisa Eldridge is brilliant.
Kandee Johnson is great too.

There are loads of people doing makeup tutorials on youtube, some professionals, others just good at it.
I like Makeup Geek, Tati, Teni Panosian, Vintageortacky and Pixiwoo, but there are loads of others who are really good.

What are you having trouble with, what end result are you hoping for -day, natural look? Glam evening?

LoadsaBlusher · 10/10/2014 15:47

Im Always looking on You tube for new ways to do my make up , I like Lauren Curtis for glam going out tutorials. It's great because you can pause the videos as you go along
You can just type in whatever look you are going for and there will be thousands of videos to watch...

This is ace! I am 41 and I have never worn make up! My mum doesn't, I have no sisters and as a teenager all my friends were men. Now at my age I am beginning to think I could give it a go - just for fun really (and of course my complexion isnt what it was!). But honestly, I have no idea what even the things are called!! Just watched Lisa Eldridge 'no make up make up' tutorial and I reckon I could give it a go. Thanks people.

I would suggest starting of with a lip gloss and wear it every day for a week, then get a mascara and wear that every day along with lip gloss for another week. Then have a go with base, blush etc. starting off slowly will stop you feeling self conscious and over made up. No 7 will match you with a base if you want one and you can return it if you don't get on with it.

For foundation, a good brush makes all the difference. I use the Real Techniques stippling brush which is really easy - just put a bit of the foundation on the back of your hand, dab the brush in and stipple on to your face. There is also the expert face brush which is better for more watery foundations - I use the stippler with Lancome Tient Idole, and the expert with Urban Decay Naked foundation.

Dame, I agree - if i tried it all I would feel like a clown! my other problem is I quite like eddie izzard's make up and that in priscilla queen of the desert and so I risk looking like...well...a man in a dress! (my neighbour used to do Eddie Izzard's make up - i should ask her for help but cannot pluck up the courage!)

With a smokey eye, start light and work your way up - you use exactly the same technique to do a pale smokey as a heavy smokey. I tend to use 3 or maybe 4 colours:

-a lightish colour all over my eyelid
-a slightly darker tone in the socket and on the outer third
-a darker one still on the very outside corner - just a dab

Blend like crazy with a fairly fluffy eyeshadow brush. You can always add a little more of the darker.

I then put a small dab of something very light and slightly shimmery on the very inside corner of my eye.

I then use the same colours with a flat angled brush under lower lashline and blend.

And a bucketload of mascara

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 13/10/2014 19:35

Oh mother-do you end up looking like Rachel when she breaks her ribs and Ross has to make her up?Grin I always do! I think the smokey eye look isn't for everyone tbh.

ohmothermaidenheadi · 13/10/2014 19:42

yes, thats exactly it!

You know I have two friends who are professional make up artists - neither of them would say no to helping me but I feel so weird about it that I can't ask them. It's so stupid like I am somehow supposed to know this stuff!!
